1321.0. "holiday house wanted for this spring/summer" by VARESE::FRANZONI (Blue like a Blues) Wed Feb 02 1994 10:31

Hi there,

I'm looking for a small holiday house, for about 4 weeks sometime between
may and july.

I'd like it in county Clare, in Kilrush, Kilkee, Ennis (?) or there around.
County Limerick may be fine as well: I'm a birdwatcher so I'd like to stay
close to the (Mouth of) Shannon... or anywhere else where are lots of BW sites.

House should have cooking facilities, one bedroom for me and my wife, bathroom
(with bath) a baby's bed (my son will be 1.5yo at that time) in a dedicated
room and/or in the living room - living room is not required if there is space
enough somewhere else (e.g. a large cooking room) and there is a baby's room
(or if the main bed-room is large enough for all *three* of us ;').
Well, I'm looking for minimal comforts - not for a castle...

If you have a house like this and want to rent it, or know anyone who does,
or know any good&cheap estate agents that could help me in finding it, please
let me know.

E-mail to VARESE::FRANZONI, or [email protected] (or reply here).

Thank you very much,
Slan,
Mauro.

... depending on my manager decision I should spend holiday there around (.0)
the second half of june...

Place where I've found a place to rent so far are:
	Doonbag
	Carrigaholt
	Corofin
(and, as second chance, because of the cost:)
	Ballyvaughn
	Whitegate
	Spanish Point

Do you know the sites ?

Then I wonder if mosquitos are a problem in the area of mouth of Shannon (I had
a vacation in Scandinavia spoiled by thousands mosquitos - and this time
I've got a baby I wouldn't like to offer to those bloody suckers ;-)

Thanks in advance,
Sla/n,

Mosquiotes in Ireland - they were banished with the snakes by St.
    Patrick !!!.

Unless they moved in in the last 5 years, Ireland was free of them

1321.7ok, I'll bring insect repellent - does Murphy's work as well ?VARESE::FRANZONIBlue like a BluesTue May 17 1994 04:1513

Oh no ! not the ones I have in my backyard (I've been bitten last year and
my face blown almost off) - but they are quite large and nasty midges.

At the end I do have vacations and I arranged for Doonbeg - it should be ~9
miles off Kilkee, almost on the (W) coast... BTW how long does it take
from the Dublin airport to there (for one who never drove one of those
mirrored cars (I did drive in Ireland already, but you drive in the middle
so it's not a problem to drive on the ``right'' lane)). Please consider
that I'll be thirsty as it's been 5 years since the last pint of Guinness 8*)

Thanks,
Mauro.
1321.8...but any port in a storm!NESBIT::CORRIGANTue May 17 1994 06:549
I'd say give yourself ~4 hours travel time if going driving straight
through. If you're stopping off for a pint along the way, well,...
five years is a long time to go without. ;^) You may not make it out of
Dublin for a day or so.
Don't remember being bothered by any biting insects last summer. Not
sure about the Murphy's as insect repellent....tastes like it though.
:^))) Guinness over Murphy's any day...

1321.9Why fly to Dublin to go to the west coast?OPENED::LIBOVEFelines 'R' UsWed May 18 1994 20:347
Re: .7

Why fly to Dublin if your destination is on the west coast? Are flights from
your point of origination to Shannon not available?

Well, there are charter flights that arrive to Shannon airport, but only from
july and only on thursday both directions (the cottage I rent is from saturday
to saturday).

There would probably be a Heatrow-Shannon flight but I love to think my travel
agent just took the cheapest fare - thought it is also likely she doesn't know
about Shannon airport, but that's a cheap fare anyway and then it's probably
my fault as she doesn't know about where I rented the house ;)
