| Apparently, the Globe had some earlier editorial which stated
that the US shouldn't pressure Britain to negociate a peace settlement
in Northern Ireland. In his letter (sorry Dennis!) Flynn was saying
that the US has been involved in many other peace arrangements around
the world (e.g. Middle East) and there is nothing wrong with them
offering assistance for Northern Ireland.
I agree with him. Cautiously realizing that ultimately the people
of Northern Ireland are the ones who must broker the peace. There's
nothing wrong with the US prodding the peace process along and offering
financial and economic incentives while doing so. It's time that NI get
a piece of the multi billion dollar foreign aid that we the US dole out
Thanks to the strong Jewish American lobby Israel gets 3 billion from
the U.S. annually. Guess how much NI receives? You don't need a
calculator. ;v) Granted, the political landscapes are different.
