1237.0. "Honeymoon in Ireland." by STAR::DSULLIVAN (David J. Sullivan , DTN 381-1274) Thu Jul 08 1993 15:44

My fiancee and I will be going to Ireland for our Honeymoon. We will be
getting married on August 28 and will fly out of Boston that night. We
should arrive in Shannon around 6 AM. (long day ahead of us)

We are interested in spending our first night in Ireland at
Bansha Castle, Bansha, Co. Tipperary. Does anyone have any information
on this B&B and/or the area ? Better places ?

This is our first time to Ireland, we will be staying about 3 weeks.
I've read most of the notes in CELT already; It has helped a lot.
  - Any other suggestions on places to stay ? Sights to see ?
  - How good are these medieval banquets I've read about in the tourist board
    literature ?
  - Can anyone tell me the Irish for the name David.

  Any suggestions welcome

  Cheers
  David

David, I've never heard of this one, but they are often excellent.

Go to West Co. Clare, Doolin, Ballyvaughan, Kinvara, Galway City (Town?)
I think you might be around for the Kinvara "Cruinniu na mBad" (crin-u-
na-maud, Irish for "Gathering of the Boats") festival which is always
good crack. If you're really lucky you'll be in Galway for the Oyster
festival towards the end of September. If you get any decent weather at
all make sure you go to the Aran Islands. On Inis Mor visit Dun Aengus
which is about 3500 yrs old and very impressive. Hire a bicycle to get
to it. All tourist offices should be able to give you exact dates on
    the festivals.

Very touristy, You won't see too many locals at them, too much stage
    Irish

    Have a great time,
  Joe.

I was reading about this and it sounds great. We will be in Galway
for it but the wife-to-be doesn't want to go. A friend of hers
(from Co. Cork) said it's just a gathering of loud drunks.

 Mybe i'll ditch her ;')

I'm going to the Galway Arts Festival to get some CUL-CHA!

Have a great trip and if you get the chance visit Wicklow, one of the
    prettiest places I've ever been.

 Hi David,(Daithi)

I come from from Cahir which is about 9 miles from Bansha. If Im not
mistaken Larry (JR) Hagman stayed in Bansha Castle some years back, as a guest
of some the the local racing fraternity. As Im going over in early August, I
guess I could get you some lit. on the place. I know of plenty of excellent
B & B's around the locality....Ive mentioned at least 2 in other parts of the
Celt Notesfile. Bansha is in the foothills of the Galtee Mountains and it is
the gateway to the very scenic Glen of Aherlow. Could be that being in
Tipperary at that time could be a very good idea. The Fleadh Ceoil is on in
Clonmel around then and who knows what Tipperary people might be celebrating
on the first Sunday in September!!?

P.S. Clare people will definitely not be celebrating it this year anyway!

Could you post some of the B&B's. I'm going to the Fleadh and I've
been told every B&B in Clonmel is probably booked. I need the names
    of someplaces outside of town.

    Thanks,
    Julie
