1222.0. "crowds of tourists?" by VINO::ROM () Wed May 26 1993 18:48

Hi! I've looked around the notes file for a possible answer
to this question but I haven't found anything. If I missed
something, a pointer would be appreciated.

	My question is:

How crowded with tourists does Ireland get in July? Would it be
difficult to find a place to stay in a B&B for the night without
making reservations or checking in early in the day?

We were originally planning to visit Ireland for 2 weeks at the
end of June, hoping to miss the height of the tourist season
but I'm having problems renewing my passport. So, we might have
to push the trip back to July. We've been in places in the US where
accomodations get very tight during the tourist season and since
we generally like to not plan our days too far in advance, I'm
	concerned.

	Thanks for any opinions/advice!

July and August are the peak season in Ireland and you will find
accomodation a problem in places like Killarney,Galway Shannon etc.
that are on the tourist trail. Having said that Galway has seen a huge
jump in the number of B and B's being built in recent years so that a
little searching might pay off. As a guide you should decide on your
place by 2.00 pm as it can get tricky after that. Galway has a race
festival last week in July and an Arts festival in August so early
booking for approx the last two weeks in July and all of August for
accomodation in the city is advisable.
Car hire and petrol ( gasoline ) are very dear here but food and drink
have improved in value lately as we get in line with Europe.
    Enjoy your visit.
