A huge van bomb has exploded in County Londonderry. No one was seriously
hurt but the commercial centre of the town of Magherafelt was vitually
destroyed. It is the fourth such explosion since the local government
elections last week.

On the same note singers in loyalist venues are advised to sing the
song "Lovely Derry" in the following manner:-
"Oh, I know a wee spot;'It's a place of great fame,
And it lies to the North and I'll tell you its name,
It's my own native birth place and its on Irish soil,
They call it Londonderry on the banks of the Foyle"
It goes to show that politics even goes so far as
to make am innocous past-time like singing hazardous.

Guys,
as a proud citizen from The Maiden City who, even though my
born religion was not of the Catholic faith, calls my birthplace Derry,
I find it offensive that petty cheap jokes should be made at the
expense of the dead.
Since I now live and work east of the Bann I do take exception to those
who, on purely religious grounds, pull me up for calling my home town
Derry, calling them "biggots from east of the Bann". However I do
not wish to see the other view taking cheap shots where someone has lost
their life,
