As an Irish citizen waiting to be 'sworn in' as an American citizen, Im wondering about DUAL CITIZENSHIP; Ive read some of the other topics on the issue of American -> Irish citizenship but they dont really cover the question of Irish to American: I just finished the final (painful!) step in the process of getting U.S. Citizenship. Im waiting (3-5 months) to be called for the 'swearing in' ceremony. Has any other CELTers been thru this process - when you attend the court ceremony, is there any question of handing over ones Irish passport? (Should I bring it with me?!?) What is Ireland's official stance on IRISH/US dual citizenship? Ann

You could not be asked to hand over your Irish passport to an American court/authority, only to a representitive of the Irish Embassy, but I'd be surprised if that happened. I don't think they (Irish) are as fussy. I did this, but the other way round (i.e. American to Irish). The U.S. Embassy in Dublin took my passport for a year (returned after six months). I don't know whether this is a precaution against selling etc. your extra passport or as some kind of slap on the hand. It sounds like you've been through the hard part, the rest should just be a formality.

In general, best not to let on to US authorities you have foreign passport. It isn't illegal but they don't like it.

Yup!! Hi Mike! Im now a "Principal Marketing & Technical Specialist" in MRO1! See! All I needed was a 'start'! 8-) Which prompts me to start a topic about women/DECcies career (promotion) possibilities and the Glass Ceiling etc - in Ireland/Europe vs in U.S. But I dont think I want to open that can of worms (here) Besides Im off to IRELAND this afternoon (BOS-NY-SHN) so gotta run!
