Jen?

1148.23 | Paddy Culbert's message | TALLIS::DARCY | | Wed Dec 02 1992 18:40 | 118 |
| Paddy Culbert wanted to leave a final message in the CELT file before
his departure. Due to our plant move, the TALLIS cluster was not
available during his final days. Thus, I am posting his final message
that he mailed to me.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TO: All my friends in ::CELT.
I am having this note entered by the moderator because ::CELT was unavailable
on my last day here.
It is hard to say good-bye to my friends at Digitial after all these years
(16 years to be precise). But all things must end, and this is but one of
those things.
In all my time at Digital, I have enjoyed this conference the most, mainly
because one could always inject a little humor when it seemed appropriate.
Discussions got heated at times, but that's OK too. All of us just have to
realize that everyone is different and different people come from different
frames of reference. This difference should be allowed and NOT criticized.
Sometimes a gentle nudge is better to use than a "baseball bat upside the
head". At other times, the reverse is true.
I will always believe that the situation in North Ireland is a result of the
attitude and actions of the British Government.
After all, if all the occupants of that little corner of Ireland had been truly
treated as equal, then there would be NO issues to address. However, the
British Government made its choice in NI by continuing to allow (and in some
cases encouraging) discrimination against the nationalist community.
Before you pro-loyalist folks go off on your ill-informed bullsh*t soapbox,
check into the Fair Employment Commission and it's activities. If you bother
to take the time (and take off your blinders) you may learn something.
Forget about reading anything in the British gutter-press because you will
only be reading a biased Brit reporter's opinion - which will be censored, and
only tell half-truth distortions at best.
I have written and called the British Gov't many times to get the official
reports. The reports I received were then compared against official documents
to insure accuracy. This takes a lot of effort but the results are well worth
it. If anyone is really interested in solving the problem in the north of
Ireland, you should have been doing this for years.
One person in ::CELT asked me to stop telling the American people it's HMG's
fault, and wanted me to start condemning the IRA. As I see it, the IRA are not
the source of the problem in Ireland, they are a reaction to colonial
occupation.
HMG government upholds and makes hideous, discriminatory laws specifically
to keep the Nationalist community down. On one hand, the IRA has categorically
stated it is fighting a war of resistance against British military occupation
of their country. On the other hand, Loyalist paramilitaries kill solely
because a person is a Catholic, - from blind hate and bigotry nurtured and
fostered by HMG thru their discriminatory laws. It is a vicious circle
controlled solely by HMG.
As I see it, my responsibility is to inform as many Americans as possible
about the situation as it exists today in North Ireland. And I will do this
with as much energy as I can muster. I will continue to do that until this
mess is cleaned up or until I die - which ever comes first.
But back to the issue here. By the time you read this, I be gone from the
company and I'll have had a few pints with some of you. I am sure we had
fun! 8*)
As for my future, I'm really not looking at leaving DEC as the end, but as
the beginning of something new and exciting.
If any of you need to get in touch with me, or, if any of you get to the
area, I can be reached through this file. I can't read it but people that know
and love me 8*) will get in touch with me.
So, Good-Bye to all my friends. Keep up the fight and never give up. Just
make sure you are informed with as much information as possible before you
make your position known. That way it's much easier to defend it.
Paddy
ps
BTW, because of two complaints about my writings in CELT about three years
ago, a company VP gave me two official "cease and desist" orders from saying
anything political about North Ireland. So I adhered to his order, since
this was considered part of the disciplinary process.
These two officially registered complaints against me were from the UK. I
never really said anything to those two people who registered the complaints
because they didn't have the nerve or the decency to identify themselves
directly to me. If either of you are reading this, I'd like to convey a
parting message to you: you are gutless, mindless, and totally without and
kind of ethic. Now that I think of it, precisely the same way your government
operates in the north of Ireland. And just as your cowardly actions against
me came to naught, your government's cowardly actions against the Irish people,
will also come to naught.
pps
Michael would enjoy as many Christmas Cards as possible. BTW, I am NOT
soliciting a damn thing here. However, should anyone care to write to him,
his address is: Michael Culbert
Long Kesh
Maze Prison
Lisburn, Co. Antrim
Ireland
And remember if you mention my name, you will get a free Whopper and Fries
next time you visit Burger King.... 8*)
Keep your heads low.
As my brother told me once, If you ever need me call me - anytime. I'll never
forget that little, "- anytime." It's all in the timing......

Mr. Brennan:
Recently, some friends from the Dublin office told me that you've
been, "acting strange". But not to worry, I defended you...
I told them, you weren't acting. ;^>
By the way, you really should clear up that legal problem you had,
last time you were over here. The N.H. State Police keep coming around,
asking questions about you. Seems there's still an outstanding warrant
for your arrest. Something about violating N.H. RSA 325:
Crossing Interstate Lines to Perform Immoral Acts With Four-Legged
Animals. To wit: a sheep. ;^>
