I think you may find that that pub tends to be frequented by members of
    the gay community.

    >real original but no singing allowed!!

    you're not wrong there !

For some 'Irish Music' type pubs try O'Donohuges (sp?) in Merrion Row.
    That's pretty good for tourists.

Mulligans in Poolbeg Street does the best pint of guinness in the
world. Not very luxurious but very good.

The Brazen Head is the oldest pub in Dublin. It used to be an old
brothel. It's frequented by some of the Dublin digits now :-)))))

My brother-in-law owns a pub in Harolds Cross (The Harold House).
His name is Gerry Ryan, pop in and say g'day, tell him who you are and ask
for a free pint. When he stops laughing he may even give you one.

For day trips out of the city try Co. Wicklow (Powerscourt etc). Lovely
countryside there. For trips within the city get a train down to Dn
Laoghaire and walk around. It's a nice little town. There's heaps more
to do, pop into the tourist place in O'connell st. (the main street)
and they'll give you all the info you need.

Have a good time and try not to get mugged !

Palace Bar (Downstairs), Fleet Street

Blue light, Dublin mountains. Go to Lamb Doyles and turn left.
Unfortunately now very popular and trendy since U2 started
hanging out there and A. Clayton got busted in the carpark.

Recent discovery The Ferryman on the quays by the gasometer.
Good music but take the rotor arm out of your car!

McDaids (or is it McHenrys?) off Grafton Street (1st left from
Stephen's Green end). Is it opposite Bruxelles or is that the
next left? If going to have to give up the drink, the memory is
going fast.

As I will be visiting Dublin during the week of the 31st July or so can
anyone tell me where you get information on pubs that do ballad
    sessions and such like.

I am not interested in disco or the yuppy scene, more like the stuff
the Dubliners do, if that still exists. Although I have two married
sisters up in the Capital, they are not interested in traditional or
ballads so do not have a clue.

The pubs I have visited seem to be into Jazz and disco so I would like
to see if the Dubs can do traditional as well.

O Sheas Merchant Bar in Clanbrassil Street for great Traditional music
    and song.
Courtneys Lounge in Lucan on a Wednesday evening also has traditional
music. Music is provided on an adhoc basis by members of Comhaltas at
    both venues.
The Lower Deck in Portebello on specific evenings (not sure which).
The Sunnybank Hotel,Glasnevin , Sunday evenings.
Keep an eye on the National evening papers at the weekend.

I went to a bloke's birthday party there with a friend of mine. I
didn't know the 'birthday boy' but was puzzled halfway thru the night
when I realised that there weren't many females there. I inquired and
was told told that it was a favourite hangout for gays.

I SPENT FROM 1983 TO 86 WORKING NEXT DOOR AND WE (TELECOM EIREANN)
FREQUENTED THE PLACE - come to think of it, most were male but its
definetly not a gay bar! I was there last xmas and it hadn't changed.

There is a gay bar across the road from it though.

Anyway I'll be there on December 21st!!

POWERSCOURT!!!! Thank you, .3 I've been trying to remember that
name for the past two weeks! I've been there, and I can tell you
there's absolutely beautiful countryside around there. We stopped for
a picnic about halfway between the gate and the gardens (~1 mile
between them); we were on a very lush green hillside overlooking a
stream with a white picket bridge and some beautiful greenery and
bright pink flowers. It's definitely a day trip I would recommend!

I visited a pub called "Hughes" in Dublin. Anyone interested in
traditional Irish folk should go there. I liked it.

You should also experience one of Auntie May's breakfasts in the
Manhattan -- nothing like it at four in the morning to settle the tum
after a feed of pints. I suppose it's the grease that does it...

Wow, this is killing me... all this talk about Dublin pubs and stuff.
You see, and friend of mine and me visited Ireland about 18 months ago
and I had the BEST time. While we travelled around the island, we spent
the las week or so in Dublin. I love that place and all this talk is
making me want to go back.....

I need a REAL pint of Guinness!

    Hello,

Myself and a number of Digital employees are coming over to Ireland
next month on a football tour. We will probably be arriving early in
the morning of the ferry. One of our number has heard rumours that
there is a pub that opens early in the morning for the sole purpose of
serving workers who have been working night-shifts particularly the
workers from the Guinness brewery. Can you tell us if this is another
tall-tale or does this pub exist as we would obvoiusly like the tour to
get off to a flying start?

    Cheers,
    	   Gerry Maguire.

1101.16Not pub - PUBSDBOSW2::BRENNAN_Mfestina lenteThu Aug 20 1992 09:1118
Quite a number of pubs in dublin open early. They are chiefly in the docks and
markets areas.

A couple that spring to mind are "Bo Derrols" and one across the road from it
whoese name I forget. I remember a certain indifidual being barred there at 7:45
one morning. Both of those pubs are situated in Smithfield Market. They mainly
cater for the early fruit and vegetable dealers.

I understand Slatterys of Capel St (famous for trad music at night) also has an
early license. Also Hanlons (Of Digital Dublin Fame) has or had on. This was
for the patrons of the Dublin Cattle market. (Un)fortunately it does not open
until 10-10:30.

Finally I understand that in Howth there is a pub with a 23 hour license close
to the fishing port. I do not know its name.
