Hi, We're three Finns, who have planned to do a bicycle tour round Ireland beginning on 20th of June. We are about to ride some 1000 - 1200 kilometers in 3 weeks. So every good advice, hint etc is more than welcome. What are the musts to see in Ireland? What are the musts to eat and drink in Ireland? What is the traffic like (as seen by bicyclists)? What is the best way to use public transport carrying bicycles with ( trains, busses ) ? Looking forward to see Ireland (and drink Guinness), Heimo

Hi Heimo, make sure you bring a puncture repair and first aid kit as there are plenty of pot holes on the roads. -). Also bring some rain gear as the weather can sometimes be poor in June. However forgetting the rain and the pot holes u should have a great time. enjoy peter

Avoid cycling in Dublin or Cork unless you bring an oxygen tank and wear a suit of armour. Bring two pairs of shoes because unless you have access to some form of heater they can take ages to dry out. (Experience of 23 years living in the rain)

Hi, for the best culture, tradition, scenery and Guinness you should concentrate on touring the west and south west areas of Ireland. There is plenty of craic agus ceol in the Connemara region in the west and in the Cork/Kerry region you will find some of the most breathtaking scenery in the country. On a note of precaution only, whilst Dublin has many attractions you should be very careful if you stay here. Tourists have been a target in recent times for petty criminals, muggers etc. (These people are as common as potholes these days -). In general avoid high population areas. sln agat Tom Casserly |
