1035.1Give that goat a Gillette.......MACNAS::JDOOLEYSell me a ToryWed Apr 22 1992 05:107
    The Donegal band , Goats Don't Shave are a kind of ballad group who do
    an amusing ditty about building a wall around that county and legalising
    gambling to stop emigration and create jobs there.

    Its called " Los Vegas in the Hills of Donegal". The lead singer has
    a gravelly voice like the lead singer in the Dublin City Ramblers, the
    type of voice I gave up cigarettes to avoid.........
1035.2Dr. SawTALLIS::DARCYWed Apr 22 1992 15:144
    Anyone know where the Saw Doctors are from? And are they doctors?
    Haven't heard Goats Don't Shave yet.

    Saw Docs are mainly from Tuam Co. Galway. Most of their music is
    about that area ......... ie N17, which is the road from Tuam to
    Shannon ( i think ). They have also made a pub in Tuam very famous
    and it has become the in-place to be seen.

    Up the West.

    Anybody heard of the band Spike Island before? My grandmother's
    brother spent a few years on holidays on Spike Island. I take it

    	"Spike Island" is a group that are active locally with Coelthis
        I've heard them a few times. Traditional stuff with a button
    	accordian.

    	"Vacation" at Spike Island? I thought it had a prison on it.

1035.10Checkered history.MACNAS::JDOOLEYDo not take anything for grantedTue Jun 09 1992 07:406
    Fort Mitchell, as the military installation on Spike Island is known,
    was originally a Naval Fort, was taken over by the Army for use as a
    military Prison. (A neighbour of mine spent time there for hitting a
    superior officer.....) and was then turned into a civilian prison for
    hard case juvenile offenders of an automative persuasion.
