I won't believe it till it's happened.
If Richard Nixon had CJ's skills, he'd probably be running for
his 5th term (he'd have had the law changed).

CJ went at noon today. Its great that the Irish press now believe
everything that St. Sean Doherty says ...... :=).
Looks like Bertie Ahern & Albert will be the main contenders.

There's quite a difference when CJ's involved.
(a week's a long time in politics etc.)

Well, he will resign on Wednesday and FF will choose a new leader on
thursday. With Bertie Ahern withdrawing from the race, it looks like
Albert Reynolds will be the new Taoiseach. Mary O'Rourke & Michael
Woods are the other contenders for the leadership, but Albert and his
"country & western" wing seem to have it sewn up.

| Albert Reynolds was born in Rooskey Co. Roscommon and started his
career in the 60's building and running Dance Halls. Instead of a
rock'n'roll revolution that happened elsewhere Ireland went thru' a
Show Band revolution which played mostly Ballroom style music and
sentimental songs with a strong Irish content. Albert made his fortune
in this fashion and was very popular with the bands and the public at a
time when business people were not popular.( Most were parsimonous and
low paying misers.)
Later Albert entered politics for tha Fianna Fail party in Longford-
Westmeath, the same constituency that elects Mary O'Rourke, another
contender for the leadership race.
His later business interests include a cat and dog food factory in
Longford town called C and D Foods and he has held many Ministerial
posts under CJ Haughey the last being Finance, the traditional home
of the deputy head or Tnaiste of the country and typically the heir
assuptive to the leadership.
His criticism of and withdrawal of support for CJ lead to his dismissal
from Finance and the appointment of Bertie Ahern, a Dublin Central TD
and long serving minister for Labour famous for solving industrial
disputes. Aherns withdrawal from the leadership race on Sunday 2nd Feb.
leaves the race wide open for Albert Reynolds.
It also signals the end of Dublin domination of the leadership of
the country because for the first time since Jack Lynch in 1979 Ireland
once again can hope for a provincial Prime Minister.

yes..Reynolds is the new boss. Charlie is on the backbenchs.
He announced his new cabinet yesterday....
and some major changes...Gone are people like Gerry Collins, Mary
O'Rourke, Michael o'Kennedy, Noel Davern, Ray Bourke, Rory Hanlon,
All in all only one minister retained his origonal portfolio (bertie
Aherne in Finance. The new Minister for Foreign Affairs is David
Andrews...A very well respected politician who had been on the wrong
side of Haughey for 16 years...He was one of the principal people
behind the push for the release of the Birmingham six and the Guildford
4...Charlie Mccreevy is also a new minister.
..Re a new election...No rumours yet..Not due for another couple of
years.
