979.0. "The NEW official 1991 Xmas Note" by TOLKIN::OROURKE (wait 'til midnite) Fri Dec 06 1991 19:51

Bah humbug everybody,

Note 973: 'Official 1991 Christmas Note!' has been deleted to prevent
any confusion. Unfortunately, I have been informed that the event that
we had planned to crash on December 20th for our Christmas Party
(The Boston Comhaltas Ceili) has been cancelled. (does anybody think
they heard we were planning on attending????)

So now we're back to ground zero - with the exception of possibly still
retaining the date of Friday December 20th.

So far, I've been given the following criteria for selecting a place:

Not in the city--
|---> Does anybody sense a conflict here?
In the city------

As far NORTH as possible---
|---> Does anybody sense a conflict here??
As far SOUTH as possible---

Irish atmosphere---
|---> Does anybody sense a conflict here???
Nice crowd---------

Good conversation----
|---> Does anybody sense a conflict here????
That KeVin attends---

So, I'll be off pondering these mysteries of faith....and maybe have
another idea by December 19th or so......

/Jen (Ho Ho, Ho HUM)

Hi Everybody!

I must be crazy to do this again after what happened last year (NOTE
830), but here goes!

HOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO

It's almost that time of year again. Time to gather with family and
friends and fellow noters to celebrate the holiday season.

So, here's the first OFFICIALLY sanctioned CELT Holiday Event that has
been planned:

CELT NOTERS CRASH THE BOSTON COMHALTAS CEILI

Please feel free (as if you think you need permission :^) to post
other ideas or activities here!

Based on recent performances that would probably still be too far
for Paddy to travel.

Jen, just pick a place/time, the same people will turn up anyway,
democracy in these situations doesn't work (it doesn't work that
well anywhere), and ignore the begrudgers.

979.3the place - the Homeplate Pub and Grill!TOLKIN::OROURKEwait 'til midniteWed Dec 11 1991 19:1327

Ho Ho Ho....she's back.

I've decided to follow Kevin's advice and just "PICK A PLACE".

So here it is: Friday, December 20th (same date as before)

Place: The Homeplate Pub and Grill, 245 Ayer Rd (Rt 2A) Littleton

Take 495 to the Rte 2A exit. Head toward Ayer (not Littleton)

The Pub will be right on that road about 2 miles from 495 on
the right. (Just past Sandville - gravel)

I've been told they have a nice lounge. They serve FOOD in the lounge
with prices in the $5 - $10 range. It isn't in the city. They have a
large well - light parking lot. It isn't TOO far north or south. It
is right off the highway and close to where many folks work!

and best of all......the sell Guinness on tap!

So PLEASE give me some feedback on who thinks they will be able to make
it.......SantaJen wants to know if she'll be sitting all by herself!

It's strikes me as peculiar how a food, named after the well-known
Italian city of Bologna gets pronounced "baloney" in the U.S.

Good luck with the Turkey dinners all you across the ocean,
I have been told that for many busy American families, it is one of the
few times they have a home cooked meal together.

As for my folks, I am the only "chick" left in the nest so the three of
us,who don't have big appetites, will have a Turkey Weekend.

THere will be Turkey Pie,Turkey Curry,Turkey Casserole and any other
dish we can think of to use up a 15lb bird.............

Hi folks.

Not that this has anything to do with the base note....but that's ok
cause I started it!

I just wanted to comment on the 'turkey' note. Personally, in my
family we follow the tradition of the who's in whoville....we have
roast beast (um, make that roast beef) for our traditional Christmas
dinner!

Ah yes, that time of year again.

I remember one year, went to my brother's place and gave his kid,
my nephew Jack-O, a little boat with all sortsa delicate parts
wrapped in a box too big for the contents. Well the little bugger
screams "AWESUN" and proceeds to shake the bejesus outta the pretty
box 'til he hears a *ping* and a *snap* and a *shuffle-shuffle*.
(*shuffle-shuffle* is the sound of ten-thousand useless pieces of
wood and plastic sliding across the bottom of a box that used to
contain a boat).

Ah well, Santy-Claus wasn't too popular that year.

The next Christmas I gave him a block of wood.

And ya know he busted that too!!!

Ah...Santy's gonna stay scarce this year and work on a good case of
wet-brain.

Merry Christmas to all.

And that goes for yer little dog too.
