From this weeks Irish Voice
"The Saw Doctors will not be playing in Boston in February as
previously reported. The Galway group, who were to have played
the Channel on February 29, will be busy recording a new album
in Dublin, That, together with fulfilling a heavy schedule of
dates at home and in Britain, will preclude a visit Stateside
in the near future."

| When one turns left at ClareGalway one reaches Oranmore in 5 miles on
the road to Shannon. Oranmore is my home town.
When I first heard those lines in the song I couldn't help thinking
that, at last, the Irish could sing Rock and Roll without referring to
irrelevant placenames such as San Francisco( ...handy when you need a
word to rhyme with disco......) or other U.S placenames which mean
nothing to most non-U.S listeners of Rock music.
Their material, referring to emigration, religous run schools and the
lifestyle of the Irish, with its frequent reference to familiar place
names and slang makes their songs much more enjoyable to all ages in
Ireland, and in Connacht in particular.
The Sawdoctors get their name from a carpenters tool which resembles a
pliers and is used to bend the teeth of a handsaw at the precise angle
needed to clear cut shavings out of the way.

here's my report on the saw doctor's concert in liverpool, 2/5:
IT WAS GREAT!!!
they had the waterboys sax player (purportedly the one who
*discovered* them) who gave alot of definition to their songs.
they came on after a 45 minute (take or give) block of an
obscure band (who weren't too bad)....i don't remember the band's
name at all.
the saw doctors played everything on their 2 album set (`if this is
rock n roll i want my old job back' & `all the way from tuam') they
also debuted a new single (and i can't remember the exact title)
that went somthing like `i want to kiss the bangles' which is a
wonderful piss take of susannah hoffs and the bangles group. it
brought the audience once again to their feet.
during the song `still living in the 60's' a strange looking dude
in a long blonde wig and kilt comes walking on stage with a hand
full of flowers and sporting love beads....he throws the flowers
out to the audience and turns to salute the band at the end of
the song....showing the audience his nekkid behind with a giant
peace sign painted on. what a hoot!
there was a great extended version of the N17....and a beautiful
intro from the sax man on `first love lasts forever'...
all in all it was perfect.... i was `just a saw doctor's fan'
before then....now i wanna be a groupie. ;-)
BTW, for what its worth ... it was another sold out performance.
