| Rene ,
Like you I don't know much about the Jordan team but would like to !!
Jordan's history prior to this year was Formula 3 I believe . Up until
a few weeks ago the race was on between the Jordan Ford and the
Benetton Ford to finish higher in the constructors championship so they
would get first crack at the Ford Engine next year . Then out of the
blue comes the Yamaha announcement .
I believe Gachot's sentence was so severe because he was so cocky in
front of the Judge , you know ..... he didn't repent !!
Jordan had a great driver by the name of Schoenmaker (sp??) but he left
for more money and is to be seen picking up the odd championship point
as he finishes 5th or 6th for his new team .
Years and years ago I was an avid follower of the F1 season (in the
Mario Andretti / Keke Rosberg / Carlos Reuteman days) and rarely get to
see the Grand Prix now . I remember from then that staying in
this business is expensive ( very f%$#ing expensive !!) and I have no
idea how Jordan stands financially . Maybe some of the resident Irish
noters could put in some snippets from the papers .
Regards , Feargal .
PS - I believe Derek Daly is still `strutting his funky stuff' on the
nascar / indy circuits in the US , can anyone confirm ??

956.2 | Jordan Team still rocking on | AYOV25::FSPAIN | I'm the King of Wishful Thinking | Wed Sep 07 1994 04:50 | 28 |
| to update this rather old note .......
The Jordan team are having a pretty good season so far. All three
drivers they have used (Barichello, Irvine and De Cesaris [when Irvine
was suspended]) have championship points and the Jordan team is lying
fourth or fifth in the constructors championship.
Barichello, a great prospect likely to follow in the footsteps of his
countryman Senna, is out of contract at the end of this season and is
almost certainly leaving the Jordan team (probably to McLaren). Haven't
heard any rumours of a replacement yet. Eddie Jordan has brought
Michael Schumacher (current Championship leader driving for Benetton) and
now Rubens Barichello (who achieved a first for Jordan at the recent
Belgian Grand Prix by taking Pole Position) into Formula 1. Hopefully
he can bring another star to the team for next season .
The Benetton team is also changing away from the Ford engine at the end
of the season . This leaves the door open for Jordan to become the
first choice outlet for Ford engines which will be a tremendous
financial boost to the team as they will receive factory engines free
from Ford .
Edie Jordan took a massive financial risk by entering F1 a few years
ago and should be commended . Not only has he kept the team alive but
the omens are now looking good for the future and Jordan is becoming an
established name on the F1 circuit .

956.3 | Jordon Team definitely on the move | SUFRNG::REESE_K | Three Fries Short of a Happy Meal | Wed Sep 07 1994 17:01 | 28 |
| Feargal,
You might be able to find a bit more info on Jordon Ford in
OASS::RACERS, there has been some discussion about the rumors
circulating as to where (what team) some of the drivers will land
next season......lots of speculation, not too much confirmed :-)
One thing I didn't see in RACERS that I heard Derek Daly reference
during the F1 from Spa, Belgium was about Eddie Irvine's penalties
being increased after he appealed a penalty that was brought against
him earlier in the season. What did Irvine do to warrant the
penalty? I just started watching F1 again with the British GP from
Silverstone (where Schumacher picked up his 2 race penalty); ref-
erences have been made numerous times about Irvine, but no one has
provided details as to why he was penalized to begin with. The
Jordon team does appear solid, it would be a shame if the drivers
don't remain in place for next season.
I also follow the PPG Indy series, Daly isn't driving, but the
American cable channel ESPN uses Daly quite a bit for race commentary
for both Indy and F1 coverage. I find him to be one of the more
interesting commentators; obviously knowledgeable and very entertaining
to boot. I wish ESPN would use Daly full time and scratch Sam Posey
:-)

| just thought I'd also mention that there's some lively F1 discussions
in TIMMII::CARS_UK, where you might pick up some bits and pieces about
the Jordon team...

| re .3
Karen ,
Eddy Irvine picked up a three race ban after the Japanese Grand Prix
where he engaged in a little fender bending with the late Ayrton Senna
and was adjudged to have been in the wrong . I must admit I didn't see
it that way myself but maybe my green glasses impaired my vision :-))
The most memorable part from all this incident was that Senna was so
incensed about it all he felt the need to pursue Irvine along the
trackside and assault him ...and the FIA said nothing .

Great sport!...Very good to see the jordan team doing well after a poor
last 2 years. They got a 1st place on the grid a while back also.
Unforth both cars crashed out early in last race...
Eddy irvine is a good driver but he did seem to get abit "excited"
during the japanesse race. As the previous note stated Senna got a
bit "upset" and threw a few boxs at him.
Rally-driving is a very popular sport here also. The roads are well
suited to it. Small, narrow with the odd cow strolling along to provide
natural obstacles.
