948.0. "Hurricane Joe" by SIOG::OSULLIVAN_D (Best Before 07/68) Fri Sep 06 1991 07:52

According to my reliable meterological sources Hurricane Joe has
been sweeping up the west coast and wreaking havoc and destruction
(of the brain cells) in his wake. Galway and Mayo are believed to
have suffered the worst of the hot air which is the characteristic
feature of Hurricane Joe. Weather predictions are for the north to
be hit hardest at the weekend before it reverses direction and winds
down the east coast next Monday. The long weather forecast does not
look good for the whole Cork region and several novenas to Our Lady
of Ballinaspittle are in progress that HJ misses the holy county (btw
others are praying for the exact opposite).

    More later...

Galway surviving an onset of hot air is as surprising as
       Murmansk surviving a cold spell.

It'sssssssss not as if they're unaccusssssssssssssssstomed to it.

HJ will undoubtably swing north soon according to the weather reports
I have seen. Too bad it doesn't blow out to sea. But then if it hits
Cork it can only improve the area. 8*).......

    Weather Update...

Citizens, I bring those of ye of the Cork persuasion the latest news on
Hurrican Joe's progress. Happily, the prayers of the Ballinaspittle
Brethern in league with the Clonakilty Cherishers have succeeded in
diverting the HJ twister in the midlands. The capital was hit rather
hard this lunchtime, worst excesses around the Guinness brewery and
Willie Ryan's pub where its sedate luchtime crowd were bombarded with
rebel (county)songs sung woefully out of tune. The recently abandoned
'holy hour' was re-introduced and HJ and his entourage were chased down
the quays and crossed the Liffey like a whirlwind. Contrary to earlier
predictions HJ is now headed north again after having broken wind at a
special private viewing of The Arthur Guinness Story. Shouts of 'more
Murphys' and 'Beamish Brendan' ensured another hasty departure for the
dastardly duo and latest met. office reports indicate that HJ is again
headed north, thus saving our "true" capital city.

    Leaprechauns are enjoying the heatwave.

The first week in Sept. of 1991 was the hottest on record in Ireland.
    HJ is having beneficial after-effects.

However the first week of Sept. 1985 was warmer as the authors of .0
&.1 will vouch. The friction generated at the turnstiles of the
racecourse gates approached meltdown proportions and are widely
believed to have motivated the diet of the century. They have also
repaired the railing near the first fence past the stand.

HJ's whirlygig geographic gyrations are presently an unknown factor
but Keyes Ferrie and yours truly know that he was well foddered for
his journey before he left the wesht for fallower pastures.

Snake will treasure the Maple Syrup for a lifetime (P.S. .1 I can get
    it for you wholesale !)

I believe Hurricane Joe was doing battle with a squally shower of
weastmeath wailers when last heard of.

    Mike,

Totally different subject but - are you related to the Hughes family
who own Hughes's Bar in Woodquay, I've been told you are ????

If so we are distant relations as Micky is my mam's cousin !!!

It would be interesting to know.

    Good luck,

The Hughes of Wood Quay strongly deny any rtelationship. If they admmitted to
that the slippery serpent would slither in and get sozzled for free. So its
best to keep him at arms length.

Whatever about Cork being saved from Hurricane Joe, Dave Barry did a
cyclonic job on Bayern Munich last evening when he scored a beaut for
Cork City. The Bavarians were peeing in their lederhosen for the rest
    of the evening.

P.S. Any sightings of HJ in New England?
