Sounds great Paddy...I am going to try and make it. I love theater, and its
NOT at Sullivan Stadium!! ;^)

However, everyone be warned: I hear there is a 'riverfest' in Lowell this
weekend, starting Friday night, so the roads will probably be crazier than
usual.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you can at all, COME TO UCD BELFIELD THIS THURSDAY NIGHT. I promise
you that this will be an experience you will never forget -- a gala event
that will make all the boring hours of studying grammar books worthwhile.
Quoting here from notice received:
"Sorley MacLean (Somhairle Mac Gill-Eain) has long been
recognised as the pre-eminent Gaelic poet of the 20th
century but it is only in recent years that he has been
widely acclaimed as Scotland's greatest living poet. Born
in Osgaig, a small township on the island of Raasay off
the east coast of Skye, MacLean first came to prominence
with the publication in 1943 of "Da/in do Eimhir agus
Da/in Eile" ... a book which one critic has spoken of as
"an eruption which permanently altered the face of Gaelic
literature". It was not until the early seventies, however,
that these poems were made available to an English-speaking
public, first in Ian Crichton Smith's versions and later in
the author's own literal translations. MacLean has since
given memorable bilingual readings to an ever-increasing
number of admirers; one such reading was described by
Seamus Heaney as having "the force of revelation". His
"Collected Poems" were published in 1989 by Carcanet."
There you have a brief intro to one of the most remarkable personages
of our time, Somhairle Mac Gill-Eain (when I first heard of him it was
under the spelling Somhairle Mac Gill Eathain) will be reading from his
own work and talking about it in University College Dublin (in the little
building known as the "University Industry Centre"on the Belfield Campus)
on Thursday next at 7.30pm. Be there -- or regret for the rest of your
life missing the event of the year in UCD!
         ALL WELCOME -- FA/ILTE ROIMH CHA/CH!
Mr
PS. Sorry for posting what may seem like a "local" notice -- but I want it
to reach anyone with a chance of making it to Dublin this Thursday.
