There is an Hotel in the airport, The Shannon International Hotel.
Its some time since I stayed there but I think its priced around 40 to
50 per night. Its not a particularly interesting hotel and I would
class the service as poor. I hope you're not fond of breakfast - the
    dont start untill 7.30 am.

There is another hotel about 15 mins(or less) from the airport -
The Shannon Shamrock, priced about the same but much more interesting
being right beside Bunratty castle and the famous (infamous!!) Dirty
Nellys pub. Service is much better here.

There are a number of good bed and breakfast places about there. I dont
have a Bord Failte guide handy to give you a name.
Anyway just for once spoil yourself. Stay at Drumoland Castle Its only about
8 miles from Shannon. The Shannon Shamrock is a little closer however.

Thanks for the info... I am with my mother and I am spoiling her
her first night (staying in Drumoland castle) but can't
afford to stay another night there and I get in pretty late
anyway. I'll probably stay then at Shannon Shamrock and move.
Hope Drumoland is a nice place - its expensive!!

I ended up having to stay at the airport because the Shannon
Shamrock was booked. In case anyone is interested for the
future, the hotel (at the airport) is now a Great Southern
hotel and I found the service and the dinner excellent.
I did make reservations for the Shamrock for the last night
there, but changed plans when I found out it was 80+ (about
$120+) for a twin room. I ended up staying at the Claire Inn
Hotel which was slightly cheaper. My recommendation to anyone
is, if you can afford it stay at Dromoland castle one night
(very expensive, but very much a treat) or stay in a B&B
there seemed to be many of them near the airport (I couldnt
stay as I had spent all my Irish money)

My other recommendation is - if you havent visited Ireland
    DO IT!! it was great.........

| 911.8 | Any New Alternatives at Shannon Airport? | STOWOA::ROGERS |  | Mon Jul 10 1995 13:02 | 12 |
| | It's been a while since this discussion was held. Is there anything
new to report for a place to stay at Shannon Airport? I made the
mistake of staying at the Great Southern Hotel last summer for our last
night. It cost us 120 for the three of us (about $190 U.S. at the time)...
    pretty outrageous.

My daughter has to be at the airport at 6:50am and she won't have a car
so she's limited on how far she can stay from the airport. Any suggestions
    of where to stay? Thanks.

    Rick
