908.0. "The Celtic league/CARN" by SYSTEM::COCKBURN (Airson Alba Ur) Thu May 16 1991 11:40

All,
Here is some information on the Celtic league, and it's magazine CARN.

The League is open to all who agree with its aims (which seem to be
promoting Celtic languages and culture) and the subscription rates
are:

7 Irish punds or 7 pounds sterling or 66 French francs or US $20.
(these may have gone up, my issue is a year old)
You get four issues of Carn a year.

There are secretaries in Ross-shire (Alba), Talbodek (Brittany),
LLandudoch (Wales), Baile A/tha Cliath (Eire), Redruth (Cornwall),
Peel (Isle of Man), London, New York, Cape Breton (Nova Scotia) and
an international secretary based in County na Gaillimhe (Eire).

All the Celtic languages are well represented in the issue I have.
There are also some articles in English and English summaries of the
articles written in Celtic.

I can type in addresses of any of the above secretaries if anyone's
interested.

Or, for more info on the Celtic League, applications for membership,
subscriptions etc you could contact the General Secretary of the

I suppose you could always start a Celtic football club topic ...

Meanwhile, here's some more news from the Celtic league....

All,
The next meeting of the London branch of the Celtic league will
take place on 7:15pm, Wednesday 9th October at 72 Compton Street
London EC2 (nearest tube, Barbican). Branch activities will be
central to the agenda. Please come along. The last meeting proved
to be interesting and the campaign for an Irish radio station in
 London was discussed.

The League is also discussing with Plaid Cymru and the Scottish
National Party the possibility of organising joint meetings in
London to discuss matters of common interest. This idea has been
received favourably and so they look likely to go ahead. One such
subject for these meetings would be that of new language acts for
 Welsh and Gaelic.

For more information about the London branch of the Celtic league,
 please contact the secretary:
