I thought that "kilkenny" beer was essentially Smithwicks under another
name, but called kilkenny so that the Europeans could pronounce it.

    ..>Kilkenny beer.

It seems to be a stronger version of Smithwicks....which wouldn't be
too hard...It doesn't seem to sell very well anyway here in Germany..
.Possibily because its got chemicals in it..which german beer doesn't
    have.

I thought the Germans had a law forbidding the sale of anything other
than pure beer.....hops water and malted barley....I thought that other
beers (susch as smithwicks or the British "tap-water" would not be
    allowed.
    		Can anyone enlighten me???

    John,

Well you can definitely buy this kilkenny beer stuff down the road
here..and quite a number of places sell some type of Guinness. You can
also poison yourself with Budwiser. I'll check with the local boyo
what the story is. There are 100's of small breweries in Bavaria alone
so any outside beers don't get a chance. It would seem that most of
the pubs are "connected" to specific breweries as they sell only the
one type (from the tap anyway).

One beer which is almost impossible to get here is Furstenberg which
seems to sell well in Ireland....

But then again theres enough here to go around -) -) -)

    slainte,
