For you lads in the Boston area there's a good 2 night movie on channel 38 about the French Invasion into Ireland. Part 2 is tonight, Thursday the 14th. The show is about the failed French invasions into Mayo, (specifically Ballina - are you listening Liam?) which tried to liberate Ireland from the English loyalists. The movie has English, Irish, and French, with subtitles for Irish and French. It was written by Flanagan, an Irish American, who was intent on writing something about his forefathers. Mr. A & E Jr.

I don't know if this is the same 'movie' that was shown on TVOntario a few years back, that was a six-part series, each an hour in length. It was produced by RTE and entitled "The Year of the French". All of the music was written and, in most part, played by The Chieftains (they even make an appearance in one of the scenes). If anyone is interested in seeing this series, in case you miss the one in Boston, I could make arrangements to send a copy - unfortunately, my son taped an AC/DC concert over the last episode!!!! But, sadly, we all know about the retributions for the Rising of '98, don't we? Pat |
