868.0. "Dydd Dewi Sant" by VAXUUM::WALTERS () Mon Mar 04 1991 11:30

Today is the celebration of St Davids day, patron saint of Wales, and
drinking buddy of St Patrick (But only at the fount of knowledge, with
    chaser of Holy Spirit).

All good Welshmen at home will wear, and later eat raw, a leek in
remembrance of a famous battle in which we soundly trounced the
invading English. The story goes that the underhand English planned to
wear Welsh uniforms and infiltrate our line of battle. So the Welsh
each took a leek (?) from a nearby field and pinned it in their
cap-badges so that The infiltrators (leekless) could be identified.

[No, I'm not at home, and I'd look stupid walking around Nashua, NH with
    a leek in my buttonhole.]

A happy St Davids day to all our Welsh noters. And save some Brains SA
    - I'll be nome next week.

Dydd Dewi Sant hapus i'r Cymry a Cymraes!

    Colin

The Prince of Ales, just the thing for taking away that leek taste.

Whoa, meant to post that last one on the 1st March. Now they'll
never let me go back. Any chance of converting to Irish?

Perhaps you should go easy on the SA. Stick to the Dark is my advice.

Ah, but I spent many years working in the shadow of the Brains brewery
    so I'm almost immune.
