850.0. "Death of Daithi O Conaill" by TRIBES::CREAN (Quasimodo? ...that name rings a bell....) Wed Jan 02 1991 12:06

    Daithi O Conaill (Dave O'Connell), one of Ireland's best-known
Republian activists, died suddenly yesterday aged 52, apparently
    of a heart attack.

He was Vice-President of Republican Sinn Fein, which he formed
with Ruairi O Bradaigh in 1986 after a split with the Belfast-
dominated leadership of Sinn Fein, led by Jerry Adams.

[I knew him personally about 25 years ago, when we both lived
     in west Donegal].

    John Crean.
