846.5 | Irish Anti-Freeze Pie | HYEND::PALM | | Thu Dec 20 1990 15:17 | 25 |
| I tried to "invent" an Irish dessert once to compliment my traditional
St. Patricks Day dinner i.e. Corned Beef, Cabbage, buttered carrots,
red Bliss potatoes with parsley, soda bread etc. and although it
it didn't turn out quite as I expected...there was not left either.
I wanted to make like an Irish Mist pie using a chocolate crumb crust
filled with a mousse-like gelatin type filling flavored with Irish Mist
(wouldn't it be grand) well I was a little heavy handed with the Mist
and the pie wouldn't freeze. It didn't dawn on me until it was all
gone why (TOO MUCH ALCOHOL).
WE NAMED IT: "Irish Anti-Freeze Pie"
Perhaps you could make a similar creation with just a tad less spirits.
I think I used a cup of the stuff and it was too much. Most cookbooks
would have a filling base ingredient level you could follow and sub-
stitute the Mist for the chocolate.
My other suggestion would be potatoes mixed up with turnip and cabbage
I think I saw something about that in this file somewhere...or was it
a Brit dish (gack).
Let us know what she made for the international dinner.

| keVin, I'm going to use your recipe for the roast turkey but I need
to know when it's done. The old Ottawa Valley method is to stuff the
turkey's arse with Orville Ricketyback unpopped popcorn and place it
in the oven. You know it's done when it blows its arse off.
All the best for the season to all and I'll see some of you in January
as I distribute Brador and Extra Stock...

Re: .6
KeVin,
Based upon your pint-count the other night, I'd say you're in no danger
of frost-bite yourself!
te-he.....sorry...couldn't resist.
By the way, looks like the sister-in-law might go with a 'mixed grill'
type thing. We'll see!
Happy Holidays everybody! Happy noting in 1991!

Well tonight is the winter Solstice. We are holdin a great feast in
honor of the God of winter.
We had trouble finding a virgin to sacrifice to Nollag. We are having
make do with a sheep. It should be a mighty occasion.

re: .7 Pat:
Turkeys in Canada must be a different kind of bird.
American turkeys are "de-arsed" before we take them home.
Another interesting feature of American turkeys are that
they are born with built in THERMOMETERS :-)
