830.0. "What's the XMAS Scoop?" by TOLKIN::OROURKE () Tue Nov 13 1990 12:47

    Hello fellow CELT'ers.

I'm about to ask the question that I'm sure many of you have been
wondering about, but were afraid to ask!

What are we going to do for Christmas this year????

    Well, Mr Burns.......well, Mr Darcy......

What's the plan on the A&E agenda???

Thank you Jen for volunteering to organize this years annual
Christmas Party. Please keep us informed as to how the plans
        are progressing ... :-)

    RE: .1

I just don't think it would work out having the party at my parent's
house. They don't have enough plastic to cover all the furniture, the
walls, floors, etc. Besides, getting there would require detailed
directions and travel through numerous stop lights! (Although this
didn't stop the Boston Comhaltas, including a few CELT'ers, from
traveling to Providence last weekend for a nice ceili!

How about if I do half the work for you. I'll suggest a place: The
Green Briar. I've heard it has a pub and a restaurant and isn't
located downtown (for those of us who don't 'do downtown') Besides it
comes highly recommended...well, actually, some clown told me about it!

Now, MR. A&E can you handle the date, directions, and the raising of
the dead to attend? The last refers to the less than overwhelming
response to this note...typical...impossible for the Irish to think too
    far ahead!

    /Jen

    Why don't we have a *Pre-party* party?!

It seems the world-famous, superstar group, Ye-3, will be making
a *special* apperance in Boston on Sunday Nov 26, 1990 at various
locations such as the Midnight Court, and maybe even the Green Briar.

Perhaps we could have a get together for the following excuses, er
    reasons:

1.)As a "dry" run for the real Christmas party, and of course to meet
       the mega-group, Ye-3.
2.)To plan the real Chritmas party. (seriously) :->
3.)Maybe by Sunday, we may even have a real reason to celebrate, such
as the demise (political, that is :-> ) of Maggie Dearest.

    Any takers?!

Well, where was everyone ?? I was at the C&A club from about 6:00
until 7:45. The music was lively, the set danshing was 'interesting',
and the people watching was fun.

The band had up to 4 bodhran players, a few fiddlers, a LOT of
squeeze box players, a few tin whistles, and a piano. All in all,
well worth the visit.

Most of all, I enjoyed watching two women who seemed to be set
experts trying to teach on the trot those in the two groups they
were leading. A lot of weight was lost by all concerned.

Anyone up for the next one, start of January ??

Bernard.

My spies and secret agents inform me that a wee, fat man answering
to the description of Paddy Culbert, (short of height, short of cash,
short of of knowing where he was :-> ), was spotted in Dublin last night
hoisting a few pints with a few of the local lads, ("The Dubs"!).

The conversation overheard by my spies was that of Paddy commiserating
about the untimely political demise of both Maggie Dearest and himself.
[aside: Oh, I can only imagine the weeping and gnashing of teeth that
must have been going on in that place!] :->

When the pubs closed, and "the Dubs" went home, Paddy was last seen
slumbering on the sawdust of the pub floor.

Actually Paddy was on a recruiting drive. he was trying to enlist new members
for the group Ye-3.

He interviewed many potential candidates. I understand he has signed up the
unbelievable Mr O'Sullivan to paly the tin (or should it be thin) whistle.

Mr Guisseppe Farrell is being signed up to play the 5 string Guitar.

When last seen Mr Culbert was interviewing Louis Stewart for the position of
reserve fiddle player. A new drummer was also being interviewed.

Great evening, thanks to Joe for forcing us down to a great seisn from
    Louis and the boys.

On the sidelines we had Martin Brennan blowing trumpet (his own of
course!) while Paddy signed up very favourable contracts for the new
revamped Ye-3. If I remember correctly, Paddy's exhortation to the new
recruits went something like "just hold the pen and I'll move the
paper." We all expect to be millionaires before the year is out.

Where and what time for the festivities? I'll be at the Sheraton in

as opposed to the other side of the pond, where "Manchunian" is in

OK, Murphy, let me get this straight: As an inducement for everyone
to come to the *gala* social event, at the "Cowboy Corral" er, Meadows
Lounge, you're saying that "Mr. Arts & Entertainment" Burns won't be
there, the funniest politican this side of George Bush won't be there,

The registrar at Engineering Quality and Technology in Littleton
cancelled the course I was to attend next week, so you'll have to wait
for the Labatts and Brador until 8-10 January.

I was looking forward to the Xmas booze-up, damn it!

Oh well, I'll be down from 8-10 January and again 21-22 January.

The new home for the Ottawa Senators is presently a cornfield. Construction
of the Palladium (includes a hotel) is to start in the Spring; however,
the team won't play there until sometime in '92 or '93. Until then, they
will have to use the Ottawa Civic Centre (at Landsdowne Park) which only
seats about 9,500. The Palladium will seat 22,500 and is about a 5 minute
drive from the KAO facility.

To be sure, you can get CC cheaper in NH or Mass... A LOT CHEAPER than
here in Ontario, and it's the same stuff (all distilled and bottled in
Walkerville, Ont.). However, here in the Frozen North, CC can be had
in IV bags so you don't have to freeze your lips on the bottle...do you
want the bags? You'll have to supply your own needle, syringe and tubing
though.

Hasta la bye-bye,

Pat

	KeVin,

I suppose drinking Canada dry is a practice run for your next trip to Galway.
The best thing that can be done with that apology for whiskey (Called CC) is
leave it in the frozen north.

B.T.W.

I see that that noble Dubliner called Farrell arrived home in one piece. He
refused to come drinking with us on that Friday night. He must have been
wounded. I take it that you were responsible.

Paddy,
