It's not official yet,Mick...but it looks almost 99% certain that
Mary Robinson will win on the strength of Austin Currie's x-fers!

As Snake said earlier "Democracy is a funny ol' Game" and the people
of Ireland are well capable of making the 'right' decision.

828.2Heres to you Mrs RBIRMVX::LONERGANSen Lonergan @BIO 841-3216 Fri Nov 09 1990 12:4919

    Hi Mick,

That was after a bit of "Mature reflection" by the electorate
you know. Power to the people!!

If Mrs R is true to some of her pre-election speak, could be that
at least some of us ex-pats might have some influence on future
    (Presidential or General??) elections....

    Sean

BTW Are you around in January...might well be over in Munich
    week commencing 13th.....

    Up Tipp!

    Hows it going Sean!

Fairly surprising result re expectations a few months ago. It got alot
of coverage on German/Swiss TV here. Basically they reckon its a big
step forward for Ireland and a big change from a "very catholic
controlled and Conservative" country. She was constantly refered to as
the left canditate...refered to on french actually as "Mary La Rouge"

..Munich 13th Jan...The date is written down..Will see you for sure
..theres a few more new places......-) -) -)

    slainte,

Well, Mary Robinson was elected President and Cathal Daly was made
archbishop of Armagh (in succession to the late Cardinal O Fiaich)
within a few daye of each other.

Both events were greated with rapture by the British Government
and by the London gutter press.
