Aeroflot the Russian airline is to sponsor the Clare Senior Hurling

The reel story behind the sponsorship, and I tell no lie, is that the
Russians wanted to borrow Tommy Peoples for the Leningrad Philharmonic
Orchestra. As usual they got the better deal, because when Clare tried
to buy some new players, they found that noone in Cork would take
    roubles.

			Ciarn de Barid
		World renowned author and lecturer
on Sunday Evening, October 14th 1990
			Hibernian Hall
		    Irish Cultural Center
		9 Appleton Street, Lawrence Mass.
			at 7:30 P.M.

Ciarn de Barid, author, lecturer, and former community worker in
Belfast, is to speak in various cities in the U.S. this autumn.

Born and educated in Cork, he has traveled widely in Asia, Africa,
and Central America. He completed further education in youth and
community services at the University of Ulster.

In April 1972, he accepted the position of Manager of the Community
Center in Ballymurphy, Belfast. His extensive international backround
plus his association with "BETWEEN", prepaired him ideally for his work
	in community relations.

Cork based "BETWEEN", managed by his father, and sponsored by the
Catholic and Protestant Bishops as well as by business leaders in Cork
City, provides rest and recreation programs and facilities in Cork for
women and children from the Nationalist and Loyalist communities of
	Northern Ireland, Belfast in particular.

As Community Representative, Mr de Barid's work contributed greatly
to the demolition of the area's substandard housing and to many other
improvements in living conditions in Ballymurphy.

Ciarn de Barid has turned the insightful experience in community
relations in Northern Ireland ghettos into a book named after the
	community, BALLYMURPHY.

No other book on the Northern situation has captured with such
intimacy and authority the conditions of life in the largest ghettos
	in the North.

The book has not only authenticity of that experience, it documents
every incident and appeal of offical records or media publications.
The books throughness is such that it has been said that this book
will be remembered and refered to, when we are long forgotten.

Ciarn de Barid has also been very active in the successful campaign
to abolish the SUPERGRASS system -- detested by Nationalist and
Loyalist -- and in other human rights efforts.

The first edition of his book BALLYMURPHY published in Dublin was an
ovewrnight sell-out. the second edition, now available, was published
	in London and Minneapolis.

THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AND ADMISSION IS FREE !!!!!!!

Sponsored by Division 8, A.O.H. Cultural Commitee of Lawrence Mass.
