812.0. "The Price of Gas" by IAMOK::CHAPLAIN () Fri Sep 21 1990 09:02

     Friend that just returned said a gallon costs more than $8.00
    American.

     If that's so, I'll be honing my cycling ability.

     So, what is it going for in Eire?

    re .1

     Thanks for the info.

     Just out of curiosity, can someone provide information as to the
    source(s) of the petrol used in Ireland?

     Is it primarily Middle Eastern?

    Thanks

812.3North sea oil!CLADA::BENOTue Sep 25 1990 09:422
    No, it is from the North sea- but the price is the price on the spot
    market.

Damn right!! Here in the Great White North, we are supposed to be completely
self-sufficient in oil and gas production. So there should no price increases
for gasoline (petrol), right? Well (no pun intended), the buggers have raised
the price of premium grade (at least here in eastern Ontario and western
Qubec) from 53.9/litre to 61.9/litre over the last month, that's about
the same as going from IR1.22/gallon to IR1.41/gallon (a rise of 19p). The
reason is totally due to the spot market price, as Canada is a net exporter
of oil and natural gas (nearly all of the natural gas consumed in the West
Coast states comes from Alberta gas wells). We're being gouged again!

812.6Fire up the stills, cars will run on the stuff!FSADMN::REESEjust an old sweet song....Tue Sep 25 1990 18:3611
    Well, 50 miles a day is a bit much to pedal (but it would help my
    diet)......but old Beulah the Buick will only drink unleaded
    supreme.....trying to make up my mind which is worse....gas bills
    now about $120/mo or a new car payment (for a newer, more fuel
    efficient) model.

    Listening to ya'll outside the States, guess I'll have to "quit my
    bitchin".
