Nora Chadwick University ASSISTANT LECTURER IN CELTIC STUDIES
in the Depratment of Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic.
 
The Appointments Committe for the Faculty of English hope soon to be in a
position to make an appointment to a University Assistant Lectureship tenable
from 1 January 1991 or as soon as possible thereafter.  Candidates should be
specialists in the area of Celtic Languages and Literatures, and preference
will be given to cndidates with expertise in Old and Middle Irish.  The
appointment will be for three years, with the possibility of reappointment for
two years.  The statutory limit of tenure of a University Assistand Leadership
is five years, but all holders of the office of University Assistant Lecturer
are considered for appointment to the office of University Lecturer during the
course of their tenure.
 
The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Assistant Lecturer, not
ordinarily resident in College, is #11088 a year, rising by seven annual
increments to #15372 (under review).
 
Further particulars may be obtained from the Secretary of the Appointments
Committe for the Faculty of English, 9 West Road, Cambridge CB3 9DP, to whom
application (ten copies) should be sent by 30 September 1990.  Applications
should be in a form of a curriculum vitae, including a candidate's date of
birth, qualifications, and experience, together with an indication of specific
areas of teaching offered and the names of two or three referees, at least one
of whom should be in a position to comment on teaching ability.  Candidates
should ask their referees to write directly to the Secretary on their behalf by
30 September 1990.

The above post is available immediately for one year in the first instance with
the possibility of renewal for up to four years for a study into Irish
place-names and surnames.  Applicants should preferably have a good Honours
Degree in Celtic or Irish and a postgraduate qualification in the areas of
Irish Language, Hiberno-Latin or computing.
 
Salary range: #11400-#18165 per annum, placing depending on qualifications and
experience.

                         RESEARCH ASSISTANT IN LATIN
 
The above post is available for one year from 1 October 1990 for work on a
project concerning the building of a Medieval Latin Word-list from Celtic
sources from a large database of medieval documents in the Computer Science
Department of the University.  The project will be in close collaboration with
the Royal Irish Academy.  Applicants should preferably hold a good Honours
Degree in Latin.  A working knowledge of classical Latin computer systems would
be advantageous but not essential as training will be given.
Salary range: #11400-#12087 per annum, placing depending on qualifications and
experience.
