I could be wrong, but I thought that I heard that Belleek was bought
out by a BRITISH company last year ===> Sacrilege. Is Waterford next?

| I believe Beleek did indeed get into difficulties and get taken
over by some conglomerate who intend to go 'mass production'.
The good news is: some of the workers left (or were pushed) and
have started up in Donegal making similar stuff the traditional
way. I'll research it and Note what I find.....

I thought Waterford was already owned by Wedgwood, which is about as British
as you can get...

as far as I know WATERFORD CRYSTAL owns WEDGEWOOD...
For those of you who dont get it, attached is an extract from
"The Irish Emigrant" on the subject. (Liam do copyright issues
apply here?!?!?!?!?)
>>> - Three companies which supply accessories to Waterford Crystal
>>> are to close as a result of the current strike. Ten jobs
>>> are to go at Waterford Silver which supplied silver plate
>>> items.
>>> Connolly of Waterford made attractive wooden trays with brass
>>> fittings, and is now in receivership with the loss of 20jobs.
>>> Wexford Cutlery has laid off 40 workers and ceased operation
>>> until the strike is settled. It made items to which crystal
>>> handles were added. The new owner of the assets of Connolly's
>>> is expected to reopen the business at a later date.
Is there any sign of the Strike ending in the near future????

| Ann is right, Waterford owns Wedgewood (as it should be).
Interesting article in American Airlines inflight magazine article last
week on Waterford's troubles and some interesting background on
Waterford, too. I'll try to find it and type some of the things said.
I loved the part where they described the "quality control" guy who
uses his sense of touch to reject pieces that you and I would think
were perfect. If he rejected he would throw it down into a large bin -
*&^% C R A S H *&*^%^. The thought of it caused my wife Michelle, who
had already collected most of her collection before we married, to
cringe!
Also didn't realize so many world-renowned(sp?) trophies were made by
Waterford (can't remember the list they gave). (i.e. bg time sports
trophies)
