745.1Republic of Ireland for the World Cup!MACNAS::BHARMONLife is short, enjoy itThu Apr 26 1990 13:2312
The Republic of Ireland will beat Egypt with no bother. We should
have no problem getting out of our group. After that who knows,
we could even go all the way to the final. The match I am looking
forward to is Republic of Ireland V England on June 11th. We will
    show England the way home.

All the teams should be shuddering in their feet, because as of
last night, when we bet USSR 1-0, in a friendly, the Republic of
Ireland have gone nineteen games on the trot without a defeat.

I think you will find that this is 19 games in Dublin without defeat
which is slightly different. Currently England have the longest unbeaten
run home and away of 16 games. I suspect they have not lost a match
since the European championships of 1988 although I may be wrong.

Bernie...statements like that have a funny knack of coming back
and biting you in the arse. We play Egypt in the afternoon and
the heat is going to be a killer. I'd gladly settle for a 1-0
win and 0-0 draws against England and Holland. If we owe anyone
a good trashing it's the Dutch and not England!

Anyway, we are all on the one road.

I'm going to be in Santa Clara during the world cup and I'm wondering
if anyone out there can let me know where it will be possible to see
    the games.

I know the hotel has ESPN (?) the sports channel but will this show
    soccer?.

    Any assistance gratefully accepted.
Any offer of a drink in Santa Clara also gratefully accepted.
