744.0. "Clannad: translation request" by TIS::MURRAY () Thu Apr 19 1990 16:33

    There's a beatiful song done by Clannad called "Theme
    from Harry's Game" (the movie). The song is sung in
    the Irish Language.

    Would anyone out there be able to translate the song to
    English? Unfortunately, no words are given with the
    album, so I can't even offer the Irish to be translated.

    If someone Irish-speaking happens to have
    the album, and would enjoy making the translation,
    please post the words in this note.

    thanks,
    Mina

    I know this might sound stupid but I am pretty sure that even Clannad
    would be unable to tell you what the words mean.
    I think it si only the sounds they are after and not any meaning.

    kieran,

    Thanks! Doesn't sound stupid to me at all - there's a band
    called the "Coq-teau Twins" (spelling may be off) whose main purpose is
    to make good music with words having no meaning whatsoever.... and
    it works!

    I was looking for something deep and meaningful in the Clannad song;
    I suppose I'll have to stick to Johnny Mathis for that.

744.3Background music in TV ad?WORDY::MCALEESELearn that poem, learn that poem...Tue May 01 1990 17:294
    Speaking of Clannad, there's an Irish tourism advertisement running on
    TV here in the states that has some music which sounds like Clannad.

    Does anyone know for sure what music was used?

       I have seen the ads and my guess is the music is one of the many
    pieces of the world famous YE-3 8*)

    There are recognizable word-sounds in "The Theme from Harry's Game" so
    I imagine that there are some real lyrics. You may want to contact the
    band's management for information on where to get the lyrics for that.
    Another alternative might be to travel to Donegal and corner Maire in
    the family pub where I have heard she sometimes helps out or goes to
    have some fun.
