721.1 | Ireland in May/June | TRIBES::CREAN | Train cart-horses, educate employees | Tue Mar 06 1990 05:05 | 4 |
| End of May is an excellent time. The country is not too crowded
with visitors and yet the summer has just arrived. There will be
a lot of anglers around, but you should have no problem finding
accomodation.

| Also, you will typically find the sunniest days of the year in May in
the West of Ireland and in June in the East. Cheaper air fares can also
usually be found in May. Unless you run into a festival (or a horse
race!) you will find no problems getting B&B anywhere at that time of
year. Moreover, if you ever run into a B&B that is full, the lady of
the house will also direct you to a cousin, or Auntie or friend who
just happens to have a B&B down the road that you can stay at.
Have fun.

| Not only sunniest, but in that time of the year, the length of the days
are at their maximum. Ireland is far enough north in latitude that
their is a great disparity in length of days from season to season.
My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful trip to Ireland around Christmas and
New Years even though we didn't have a lot of sunshine everyday - we
were prepared for it and concentrated on pub life and people.
Next trip (next year?!) we want to go in June to have those long days
and have excellent touring and many chances to see the beautiful
green landscape.
Enjoy. Take it easy - remember - you'll always be going back - so
don't worry/rush about seeing every single site! Common mistake among
Americans visiting their.....

| Its worth noting that the best place in Ireland for sunshine is
Wexford. Kellys Hotel in Rosslaire is my favourite haunt. There
are many excellent bead and breakfast places around this area also.
In the west there is almost double the annual rainfall. They even
say that it rains 364 days a year in Killary.
