RE .0
I think it's quite a good idea. Not because I'd like to see a Scotish
conference but because I'd like to see an Irish conference 100%
devoted to matters Irish. There are times that I would like to ask
something about Ireland but it's nothing to do with CELTIC culture
and therefore of little value to people who read these notes for
cultural reasons only, so I don't enter anything.
If we had an Irish conference, my problem would be solved. !
Tony.

| Re .2: Tony, I disagree with your point. If you want a 100% Irish
conference, you must create one. If a Scotish one is created, this one
would still have to deal with Welsh, Cornish, Manx, Breton and Galician
topics as well as the Irish ones. What's more, there are Celtic topics
which are not specifically related to one Celtic area in particular,
where would you put them if this file turned 100% Irish?
The Irish are not the only Celts around, just the noisiest... ;^)

I agree with Denis, keep one notesfile where we can all stick
together and moan about the English !
I would love to learn more about the non-Irish Celtic cultures,
though I suspect Digital doesn't have a very big population of
Cape Breton Islanders or Manx ! The only problem I can think of
is that to some Scots the word 'Celtic' is an anathema (or an
enema or quite possibly anemone) in which case we're better off
without them.
Yours in the spirit of pan-Celticism, pan-tomimicism and
pan-demonium.

| Well Craig it appears we are in the minority. I do however, agree with
you. I think a Scots Notesfile is a great idea!

Well, I seem to have some support here and some support in the GB
conference. The answer seems to be, let's try it and see if it works!
I'll investigate next week whether the system managers object to another
conference on Marvin, and hopefully it'll be on line shortly after that
if I get the go ahead from them.
One criticism which has been levelled is that some people would not be
sufficiently interested in a Scotland conference , even though they are
interested in Celtic or GB conferences as these have a wider scope. "I
don't want any more conferences in my notebook" has been one comment.
Well, such is life. I guess a Scotland conference is not likely to attract
quite so many readers as a GB or celtic conference but so long as there's
enough to keep it going, it'll suceed. Adding an extra conference when you
perhaps have 30 or so already is not such a big deal when there's plenty
tools going to help you monitor conferences automatically and/or by batch
(mail_vaxnotes, AVN etc). He who proposes, does in this company!
thanks for the replies!
Craig.

Welcome to the Scotland conference!
This conference was created to provide a place for people to access
information on Scotland and/or Scottish things. Prior to setting up
this conference, Scottish topics were split between the Great_Britain
notesfile, the Celtic notesfile, and also the Ayr conference!
To create a common place for such information, and also in view of
Digitals increasingly important role in Scotland (Ayr, South Queensferry)
it seemed sensible to have a common place for all this information.
Relevant topics of discussion could include:
Travel in Scotland (where to stay, what to do, things to see, etc)
Digital sites in Scotland (both employees and Digital Scotland itself)
Questions on Scottish things (languages, tartans, whisky, haggis etc)
Job vacancies in Scotland - is there any? :-)
Scottish politics
Scottish news
Music from Scotland
Culture (Glasgow in 1990!)
Good pubs!
Sport (hillwalking, skiing, fishing, golf, scenic cycling routes etc)
Promotion of the Scots and Gaelic languages is welcomed, but try not to
make the conference too cliquey - please supply a translation if possible!
slinte (cheers)
Craig.
