Nope, you have got it wrong. Dave is like a sponge. He can only
consume a certain large amount of alcohol. At the end of this he
needs to be squeezed dry.
In order to keep going over the Xmas he reduces his intake at present.
Sorry Dave couldnt resist.

| Perhaps Mr McCrohan and Mr Cockburn should should open a "serious
folks" (sp. ???), note. The rest of us would promise never to reply,
leaving them in peace to discuss such topics as the idiots in the rest
of the file, the dismaying misuse of the file space, the obvious need
for serious and concerned debate on all subjects from the man who
murders fourteen women because women ruined his life to the philosophy
of the lunatic Dreyfuss.
I for one would love to see some enlightened writing on any subject from
either of these two, dare I suggest intellectuals, other than their one
liners on how they dislike their time being wasted by the low standard
of drivel found in this file.
Gentlemen, we wait with that exhilarating expectation only found in
children on the eve of Christmas as they await The Great One's arrival.
Please show us Philistines the errors of our ways and the true potential
of this file, that we are too blind to see. Help us.......and you will
bathe in the rays of our gratitude for ever.

The murdering of 14 innocent women in the prime of life is NOT the sort
of topic I expect to see dragged up as verbal ammunition in a vain attempt
to make a point.
I find the above particularly distasteful and offensive and I hope the
moderators of this notesfile take issue with the author of the above
(Kevin Sullivan @DAS) and remind him that the Celts are supposedly
one of the friendliest races you can find. Comments such as the above
do not only tarnish the image of this notesfile, but also of Digital
and Celts as a whole. I object strongly to such unnecessary remarks
made in reply to a constructive suggestion for improving this notesfile.
If I knew Mr Sullivans managers name I would forward his note to him/her
to pursue this matter further. Such behaviour in a notesfile which is
readable to ANYONE in Digital (and I know of VP's that follow notes)
is irresponsible and not representative of the values I have come to
respect as a Digital employee.

I, too, have a problem with the reference to the heinous crime
committed in Montreal yesterday. I have absolutely no problem with
"drivel", but innocuous and unnecessary references to mass murder
are, IMHO, in very poor taste.
Perhaps the author would like to delete his note, or at least
edit out that reference? I feel that simply stating our objections
should suffice, and a memo to his boss is unnecessary. We are all
reasonable people here (I, at the risk of sounding naive, assume).

It seems to me that Mr Sullivan was simply suggesting a range of topics
that you might find suitable for debate. I don't believe that anyone
would find mentioning a topic such as this distasteful and offensive. What
happened to free and open discussions ?? Are you saying we can't talk
about something because someone would be offended.
I believe you are implying the Mr Sullivan was trivialising the topic, I'm
obviously not speaking for him (he's well able to do that for himself), but
I read what was written several times, and the responses, and do not
think this was intent.
As for the responses. Why only go as far as his manager. If you like,
we could forward it direct to KO himself. With the responses of course.
I've little doubt whose notes would be less highly regarded.
Maith a fear, M.
Shame on you Craig for making a Huge rathole out of a little digression.

What matter ? Or maybe, whatsa matter Craig, can't take a joke ?

| Mr. Cockburn,
I know Mr. K. Sullivan and while not wanting to rise to his
defense (he is well able to do that with no help from me) I do feel
the need to come right out and say he holds no malice for anyone
but he does have a unique style.
I feel that some of us try to keep this file abit LIGHT and
do so intentionally. There is enough sh*t stirring that goes on
in other note files. Lets not let it happen here.... PLEASE
I could be mistaken but it seems that you are not really taking
his note as a whole but pulling out a piece that you choose to respond
to.
Too often we (noters) will pull out that piece and make it an
issue. I never really thought that fair. But then who said we play
fair right?????
I only reply now to try and prevent any slagging match and give
us all a chance to try and remain objective and not make this personal.
BTW I think a Scottish note file is a super idea and I am interested
in what your culture is like and how it differs (if at all) with
the Irish culture. (I promise not to be controversial ha-ha)
So lets not let this get out of hand and maybe, just maybe your
personal name will really apply.
paddy
PS.
Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year.

| Ok, I understand that Mr Sullivan (don't we use first names in this conference?)
probably didn't intend his remark the way I interpreted it. However, notes
is a large community and we must be careful when making comments that they
do not offend people, especially on potentially sensitive topics.
Let us now lighten up a bit and progress back to topics without such morbid
overtones. Frivolity is all very well, but IMHO, it doesn't do much to promote
this conference when people come in here to ask specific questions and have
to NEXT UNSEEN over topics such as this, or extract just the useful directory
topics in order to get the answers they are after. The content of this
notesfile is governed by the way it is moderated, and if the moderators are
happy with the way it is run then that is what the readers must put up with,
whatever their views.
If I cannot make a simple constructive suggestion without getting 'blasted'
then I'm not sure I want to continue following a conference where I cannot
make an innocent comment without risk of this happening again.
Craig.

| Aha......so there is life out there afterall.
Craig, in a few days when you reread your replies, aka "simple
constructive suggestions", I think it may be you who might wish
to delete. They are perfect examples of misinterpretation and
overreaction.
Though I give most of the "drivel" writers credit for being capable
of understanding simple English, an explaination of this sentence
accused of being in grevious bad taste seems necessary in this
instance. Quite simply it refered to debate on a spectrum of subjects
"from the most serious (the murders) to the absurd (philosophy of the
lunatic Dreyfuss)".
Being a believer in the feminist philosophy and though continually
impressed by the ability of a large percentage of the male population
to push the frontiers of selfrighteous pig ignorance to new limits, the
Montreal incident frightens, the act itself, but also all that it implies.
I can't think of anything else that qualifies under "extreme seriousness"
above this incident and its implications.....Can you?
