661.0. "Who is the Dark Hero" by AYOV27::KDELANEY () Fri Oct 13 1989 04:13

                          The Dark Hero.

    On tv just now we have running an adaptation of the novel "Confessional"
    by Jack Higgins.
    If any of you have read the book you will remember that the priest/KGB
    agent's code name was Cohealan,please excuse the spelling,a hero
    of Celtic mythology.
    In my limited reading on this subject I have never come across this
    character.
    Can anyone out there give me some info.
    I don't think they have confused this character with Cu Chulain
    the famous Hound of Ulster and from the description of the Dark
    Hero I don't think he would belong to the Red Branch warriors or
    the Fenians.
    So folks get your thinking caps on and get your little fingers typing
    and give the big man a hand.

    Yes the Priest has a cover name of "CuChulainn". This is the spelling
    used in the book.

    I saw the second eposode. It was quite enjoyable. While based on
    the book there are some obvious differences in the script. If you
    manage to get your hands on the book do so. A good second-hand store
    may have it. It is a good escapist read.

    I wont spoil the story by telling how it ends.

    P.S.

    The character Liam Devlin was used by Jack Higgins in a number of
    other books. One of them involved a plot to Kill Margaret T. However
    thats another story.

       I'd be very careful when getting information from Mbr...8*)

661.3The Dark Hero RevealedAYOV18::KDELANEYMon Oct 16 1989 04:2020
    I read and thouroughly enjoyed the book a few years ago but I had
    forgotten about the priests code name.I've also read the one about
    the assasination of that witch we call a Prime Minister,in fact
    I think I have read most of Jack Higgins' books.
    I'm still having trouble reconciling the famous CuChulainn,the Hound
    of Ulster, with the priest's character,I suppose Mr.Higgins is
    employing a little artistic licence.
    Having seen part of the programme I'm sure you will agree that they
    have borrowed parts from "Prayer For the Dying".
    A good watch none the less.
