    keVin,

Same position as you - on the ditch.

The first half was a very messy affair with several seagulls in
severe danger of losing whatever seagulls lose when they are hit
in the &#$^&^* by a ball. Ireland scored just before half time with
Ronnie Whelan scoring a grand goal. Just after half time Cascerino
scored following a corner (keeper punches ball out, Whelan gives
a great pass to Sheedy who took the corner, Sheedy crosses
and Ice Cream man heads home). Houghton scores following one of
the best moves of the match. Dave O'Leary was on for the last 15
    minutes.

However, the comment of the day belongs to Jimmy McGee, the commentator
who made this statement just before kick-off time (at 2 minutes
to 1). "The reason for the delay in starting the game is because
it has not reached kick-off time".

The referee was an Italian from the Vatican :-)

A great day and it will be a superb night. Kevin and Paddy you arrived
    a few months toooooooo early.

                               -< Good old BBC! >-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just to give you the usual "balanced" view of your average BBC
sports commentator; I was listening to the `Today' programme on Radio 4
this morning when this sports correspondent, who sounded like he should
really have stayed in the economics department, described Ireland as
the "jokers in the pack" who are likely to provide the "fantasy element"
in Italy next year.

Maybe he was thinking to that "fantastic" night in the last European
championships when the Republic put the joke on the Ould Enemy.

That's the real problem with the English attitude to the game. They believe
that skill and clinical efficiency (and they presume they have that in
abundance) are sufficient to win games. When they see real team spirit
and a team which has passionate support they are slightly bemused by it
all. I know Jack Charlton agrees wholeheartedly with that sentiment.

Musha God help them but they'll never learn!!

> How many thousand Lira for a pint of Guinness?
If, after the first sip, you can call it again Guinness ... you'll find that
pint of dark beer expensive: it's about 4500 lire per half liter (a few less
than a pint) ie: 2.3-2.5 Irish Punts.
Please don't hit the bar tender just because he doesn't pour it as it should
be done ... as Jesus said: they don't know what they're doing.
The final taste is a little lighter than the one you can drink in UK i.e.
half the 'bodyness' of an Irish Guinness.

> How many Irish men can fit into an Italian bar??
Saw that Irish men have more or less the same size of Italian men, I guess
the same number can fit ... depending on the bar/pub from 10 up to 100.
If you need suggestion for bars/pubs/restourants in Milan, feel free to
mail me at MLNCSC::M_FRANZONI.
Also a conference is open on Italian stuff (ROMOIS::ITALIA) if you can reach
it (often down).
Please, don't ask me about soccer/championship stuff, I can't stand that sport,
anyway I could forward to some colleagues about it ...

Cheers, Mauro.
