    if it would be worth staying one more night should I be in town?

Since I can't find that "Christy" note, and since they (Tannahill Weavers)
were mentioned here, as well, I got my order from Green Linnet. I now have
an extra

             PASSAGE - Tannahill Weavers  (LP)

that I would be willing to let go of reasonably ($5 sound fair?)...

'Tis a good album, especially if you like contemporary Scottish music (which
I do)...but my turntable can only play one at a time, and I don't need two of
one album. This one is still sealed up in plastic.

Send mail. I'm in Maynard (MLO). Wife is in Nashua (ZKO).

Randy
643.9Tomorrow it'll go down to $1PENUTS::KSULLIVANFri Sep 22 1989 15:592
    That's far too expensive, I'll give you $2 for it.

    Last night I heard a song by a group called the Black Velvet Band
    (?). Does anybody know anything about them? Are they touring
    in the States?

    I know a little about them from the press etc.

    They are presently doing a mini-tour of the State(east coast) to
    try and get some *notice* that side. They are Irish and not that
    long together...I think they have a single on release over here
    and possibly an album in the pipe-line. From their image and sound
    I figure they are trying to hone-in on the In Tua Nua/Waterboys
    section of the music market...and good luck to them. They are a
    four piece...and they female singer was once a member of the Hot
    House Flowers in their early days. Herself and another band member
    Ronan(guitarist) last year or so were joint presenters on a TV
    programme here called 'Anything Goes'(?) kind of music/teens
    programme.

    They were in NY last week and I think they are in the Boston/NH
    area this week or so. They plan to return to Ireland shortly
    and do a series of gigs around the country...see how the singles
    does...then it's up to the record company...who knows maybe are
    more extensive tour of the States will be planned.

643.15The Black Velvet BandAKOV12::HORGANWed Sep 27 1989 18:0112
    Hi Jen or should I make that Baroness Jen,

         I picked up the Black Velvet Band's cd a few weeks ago. They are
    a bit like the Waterboys but not quite in the same class. FNX in
    Boston has been giving "When Justice Came" alot of airplay.

         My sister swears she heard something on the radio about them
    being in the area this weekend. If I find out anything I'll post it.

    Congratulations!
    Julia
643.16Kasey was right!AKOV12::HORGANWed Sep 27 1989 20:3215
    The Black Velvet Band will be performing at the Merrimack Valley Irish
    Festival this weekend. The fair is inside at the Ancient Order of
    Hibernians, 9 Appleton St. Lawrence. 508-687-8937. $4 admission.

    The woman I spoke with on the phone was not sure if they would be
    there on saturday. She said they would be playing sometime between
    4 and 8 on sunday afternoon.

    RE:  .12, .15, .16

    Thanks Dave, Julia, and Kasey for the speedy & 'informative'
    reply...such a network!

    Anyway, Julia since I've only heard the one song...would you recommend
    the album?

    RE: .15 My land purchase: It is green and covered with stone
    walls...the wee people would be pleased. I knew I had to hurry
    up and make an investment. Putting my savings into a 5% bank account
    was not going to help me with my goal of retiring before I'm thirty!

    It is a strange feeling having a mortgage with no roof....it may
    take a while to save up enough to go back to Ireland on Vaca...sigh
