612.1 | Why work when you can..... | BYENG0::JMCGRATH | Get Realistically Unreal today! | Tue Jul 11 1989 05:00 | 6 |
| Depends on what kinda work ye are interested in! Why only for a month?
I reckon there will be some work in Galway especially during race week
but I don't know if it will be to your taste. Post more details!

I'm at present in the process of completing my apprenticeship
as an Industry/Commerce trade person (or whatever ye call that)
at DEC Kaufbeuren.
Before I started this apprenticeship I used to work in the
Export Dept. here at DEC.
I sent some applications over to haulage companies in Clare
(I don't have any addresses of speditions in Galway!!) But
nothing turned up...same goes with manufacturing companies
in County Galway...(including DEC!!)...
Why just a month: I'm only seeking a job as a Holiday Relief
Worker...(several reasons!!)
What kind of job am I interested in: Well...if I don't get
anything in the above mentioned business...I take what I can
get...
e.g. I have experience in working in a pub...

I'm not surprised no one will hire you for a month, particularly July
and August. Companies want commitment and everybody takes holidays
throughout July and August. I once tried to get voluntary work in the
Galway Ballybrit plant for my cousin just so he'd have some experience
to put on his C.V. It was a "no way" situation.
Your best bet is to wing it. Go over and start knocking on doors. If
you hoof enough places you're bound to get bar work, restaurant work
or farm work.
Good Luck,
Paul

I'll have to agree with .3
The "locals" have a tough enough time finding employment so it
must be very very difficult for outsiders...
I wouldn't know where to begin in reference to finding short-term
employment in any part of Ireland ...
Sorry I can't be of much assistance :-(
Maybe we'll meet in Doolin anyway, just tell Doll in O'Connors
Pub in Doolin that your looking for the crazy Yanks from Boston.
(She knows us well) :-)

put you over the alcohol limit.

612.9 | Another pint there barman... | BYENG0::JMCGRATH | Get Realistically Unreal today! | Thu Jul 13 1989 03:55 | 12 |
| C'est moi yet again. I reckon with race-week coming up in Galway there
WILL be employment as bar staff around the place. This probably doesn't
apply to Clare. But then again, what does? ;-) Try the major hotels
and pubs around Galway (there are quite a few - I should know!) and
you should strike it lucky if you have adequate experience! I know race
week season lasts only about 10-14 days but you could be kept on if you
play your cards right. I'll be in Galway July 26th to 31st. Ask for the
CIMR crowd in Laffeys for a bi of crack! Best of luck.

ps. Who the **** are YE3? Who cares? ;-)

Re: .8 & .9
YE3 are alive and well and living in New Hampshire .....
(I wonder if U2 had these same problems in the beginning) :-)
I was not in Ireland last year, but I'm sure there were
a lot of Boston visitors to O'Connor's Pub ....
I "Vassendoolin" in 1987. :-) (See Note 420.*)
We arrive in Ireland on July 27th and a MAJOR Party is being
scheduled in Galway City on the 28th. I don't know the exact
pub location(s) yet, but when I do, I'll post it here. We will
be easy to spot, Paddy Culbert will be wearing his Green, White,
and Gold, "Bermuda Shorts", and his "Long Kesh University" Tee-Shirt.
(A sight for sore eyes indeed) :-)

MAYBE A LITTLE LATE HERE BUT IF ALL ELSE FAILS YOU MAY WANT TO TRY
A TATALLY NEW APPROACH ........ LOTS OF GERMAN/AUSTRIAN/SWISS TOURISTS
IN THE WEST OF IRELAND ....TRAVELLING AROUND THE RESTAURANTS/BARS
ETC YOU WILL RARELY FIND ONE THAT CARRIES OTHER THAN AN ENGLISH
MENU .....COULD MAKE A LOT CHARGING 10 PUNTS A TIME ON PROVIDING
GERMAN TRANSLATIONS ........
