Looking For Relatives ------------------------ Having had a good look at the ELF file I was pleasently suprised to see that there was over 20 of my namesakes. "Kenny auld son" I said to myself,"some of these people may be blood relatives." Well are any of you? To give you a fighting chance of finding out I will give you a potted history of my family as I know it. My Great-Grandfather was called John or Jack Delaney. He was born and brought up in Sligo. He married a lass called Mary Orr and emigrated to a mining town outside Edinburgh at the back end of last century. As far as I know he had a sister called Katie who came over to Uddingston in Lanarkshire for a few years before the Second World War. My Father seems to remember that Great-Aunt Katie had a slight disagreement with the authorities during the war and was politely asked to remove herself from Scottish soil. After my Great-Grandfather died the link with our Irish relatives was lost. If any of you out there in DECland can help me I would be gratefull. Hope to hear from you soon. Kenny Delaney

Kenny Why don't you drop a line to the genealogy centre in Sligo. Give them as much detail about your great grandfather as you can and they could be able to put together a family tree for you. Their address is: The County Sligo heritage and Genealogy Centre County Museum Stephens Street Sligo Ireland

Cousin Kenny (sounds like something from ROOTS), You won't find me in ELF because I'm a contractor (5 years today with DEC). My Grandfather, Dr. Patrick Delaney, was from Ballyhaunis Co. Mayo which isn't too far away from Sligo. To be honest I know nothing about him (he died when I was very young) except that he spent most of his life in Dublin and he had a brother who ran away to the circus (and was never seen again !!). However I'll check out the tree with my family and get back. So what is it about Scotland that attracts us ?? (It's either Drink or Wimmin, but probably both !!). I "emigrated" there in 1983 (from Cork) and contracted with DEC in Ayr for 3 years before moving here (Munich - 2 years ago). However Glasgow is more or less home now because I have a flat there and I reckon that's where I'll go back to (eventually). I suspect some travelling blood in the "clan" (aka Tinkers !!) cuz my parents got married in Canada (circa 1954). I've a brother living in Canada, a sister in America, a sister in London and a young one at home raring to go.......... Awrabesinnatno, Robin Patrick Finbar.............

Hello cus. Thanks for taking the time to talk to me. In answer to your inquiry concerning the clans itchy feet ;It's DRINK,DRINK AND MORE DRINK. This tendancy in your branch of the family for people running away to circuses and never being seen again interests me. There is a few in my family I would love to persuade to do that. Any hints? Your note has given me some food for thought. I will see my Dad this weekend and pick his brain for more family history and anecdotes. By the way,do you have any relationship to the great Celtic and Manchester United footballer Jimmy Delaney? I am related to him through my Mum whose maiden name was Donnelly. Thanks again cousin ,I will speak to you soon. Regards Kenny. |
