| 550.1 | No Problem. | MARCIE::KSULLIVAN |  | Wed Apr 12 1989 15:32 | 10 |
| | Sure, just send me a copy and I'll make sure all the lads,(keVin,
Paddy, Joe, Jimmy etc.etc.), get a copy. We have a pretty good
distribution system between us.......I think it is very nice of
    you to offer.

Thanks from all of us and looking forward to hearing it,

                          All the session lovers.

Michael: If you send a copy to Kevin Sullivan, you can be sure
that people all over New Hampshire and Massachusetts
will hear your music real soon ... :-)

Have you tried contacting any distributors in Galway
    	         or Dublin ??

I could send you the names and addresses of some of
the Boston Irish radio stations, and if you want to send
them a tape, maybe they will broadcast some of your tunes.

How about a copy for my uncle John who lives on
Abbeytrinity Road in Tuam ?? :-)

| 550.3 | Radio stations and record shops won't handle. | MARCIE::KSULLIVAN |  | Thu Apr 13 1989 10:01 | 12 |
| | The local radio stations, in MASS & NH, that play this kind of music
are not allowed to use tapes.....LP's & CD's only......and without
some type of promotional airplay......I don't know how anyone could
hope to sell these.....what is the quality like? Also, I doubt
that any record shop would toutch these tapes as they are for all
intent and purposes...bootlegs...therefore potential legal problems.

The only hope is to send a copy or two to me, and I'll get it
circulating and you never know your luck.....

                Kevin Sullivan.

To all ye nice people out there,
there is one thing I omitted to say in the base note,
and that is, the tape will not be available for at least
5-6 weeks, due to a delay with the printer,

I must apologize for this omission.
              But keep the information flowing.

              Regards,
                     MIke.

Bootlegs only become a problem if the artists involved don't give
their permission...I figure Mike Tuttle wolud give such permission
if you asked him nicely ;-)

At last you've hit the big time. I don't know what I can do regarding
promoting your tape, except maybe giving a copy of it to the local
Comhaltas group ( The Canadian president resides in Ottawa), but
I'll certainly do all I can. I would really appreciate a copy myself
(which of course shall be paid for in full).

I can't wait until you become famous and I can tell everyone that
    I know you.

Looking forward to your first Canadian tour. :-)

| 550.7 | It ain't easy...... | MARCIE::KSULLIVAN |  | Fri Apr 14 1989 09:00 | 22 |
| | Re: .5

I'm sure that would mean a lot to a record outlet in this neck of
the woods.......without even a vaguely known record label it would
smack of bootleg....."Ah yeah, sure he gives his permission".

Does anyone know just how many such tapes of sessions of all kinds
of music that exist....and if everyone attempted to walk in off the
streets asking these racord shops to stock their tape?????

Maybe if you gave it to the Irish bars willing to play it, and
maybe someone might ask who that was....the barman may be able
to offer him a copy for $5.....maybe!!!

If it was that easy why do you think that it isn't done regularly,
that people play the circuits (whatever the type of music) for years
in the hope of convincing record reps/agents that their product
    is commercial.

Irish music at its best is not and has never been a commercial giant.

| | .7 "Irish music at its best is not and has never been a commercial
        giant".

However, Irish music has come a long way these past few years
largely due to the tremenduous amount of U2 excellent performances
in many countries. Irish music (folk, rock, instrumental,
combination of all these, etc.) has started to make itself known
in many parts of the world as a fascinating explosive sound and
excitingly unique music from the heart as well as the head.

A lot of smaller Irish bands are now making significant headways here
in the United States. And I think we are seeing the beginning of a
trend whereby Irish music is going to gain more and more popularity as
we enter the 1990's. And, I read Dublin is the place to be these days for
Irishmen/womem who are interested in making it musically.

It ain't easy, and you've got to keep trying so you can take advantage of
this growing interest in Irish music. I think it is a good time for
Irish artists to make themselves known.

By the way, do you have contests up there whereby
musicians send in their tapes to a panel (?); then the panel
    - or whoever - listens to all the tapes sent in and picks the one that
it feels is the best. If you happen to be the winner you've got
something going for you. There was one similar contest organized here
in the States (N.H.) this past month. Usually, local records/music stores
    publish these contests.

I would certainly like to have a copy of your "New Irish Tape" as
well. I enjoy listening to Irish music, and I could certainly spread
the good word around as well. May be "MURPHY" would be good enough
to provide me with a copy................................................

The best of luck to you,

    Frances.

| | Mike, I just received the two copies of the tape you sent, many
thanks to you. I listened to it last night, and I must say it is
very well done! I'll bring the other copy to my Dad so he can play
it around for some of his buddies (Paddy Reilly, Danny Doyle, Jimmy
Crowley) so perhaps we can get ye a bit of notoriety. Also, he
has quite a few contacts in the Irish import shops in the New England
area, and just maybe he can influence a few to order some tapes
    to stock their shelves.

In any case, I'll do whatever I can. Thanks also for the newspaper
    article. Best o' luck!

    	Bob
