    Gee, I wonder what is going on....there has been a noticable absence
    of activity in this file since 'The Big Day.'  Where is everybody?
    Still partying? (or recovering?)
                   
    Well, to shake you out of it, here's a new topic!
    
    Two of my friends are getting married in July and taking a 3-week
    honeymoon in Ireland.  They are both avid bicyclists, and they want
    to spend part of the trip riding around the countryside.  
    
    They've asked me to find out if 'good' bikes can be rented or if
    they need to bring their own.  Also, where and how much ($)?
    
    Most importantly, they are looking for suggestion on where to ride.
    Some touristy areas would be o.k., but they are also looking for
    areas off the beaten trail.  
    
    They are both strong riders (they rode across the U.S. a couple
    of summers ago), so they can handle most terrain.
    
    So, let's here it:  Where is the best place to ride????

    	Ive seen a CYCLING IN IRELAND PACKAGE holiday from USA - that
    	was incredibly inexpensive... only thing is I cant remember
    	whether I saw it in last sundays Boston Globe or in a Brochure!
    	The details looked interesting - your luggage is 'hauled' around
    	by a van, so you meet your luggage at your next stopover point
    	etc - sounded a bit more comfortable than wandering around for
    	weeks with only the stuff that fits in saddlebags!  Im sure	
    	they could find out from their travel agent?

    Oh God, I still have memories of bicycling in Ireland in 1967. 

    The hardest part was getting to Logan without going through the tunnel.
    At the Aer Lingus counter they were somewhat incredulous when I put my
    35-lb. bike packed with 9 lb.s of clothes, a cup, a plate, knife, fork
    and spoon on the baggage scales.  When it came off in Dublin it was in
    a variety of unrecognizable pieces. 
        
    I remember it was raining all the time.  It was all uphill. Anytime I
    asked for directions they'd say "From Boston are ye? Do ye know me
    wife's cousin?" 
                                  
    After cycling through Denmark and England for three weeks it was
    the first place I had things stolen off my bike.  I even had some
    Tinker try to take it out from under me while I was riding it.

    A book came out last year called "Around Ireland in low gear", written
    by an Englishman, who traversed Ireland with his wife and a pair
    of bicycles.  There should be some ideas in there.

join a slide show at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education Tuesday [March
28] at 8:15 p.m. or April 12 at 7:30 p.m.  Call the center for reservations,
(617) 547-6789.  The presentation is by Easy Rider Tours, PO Box 1384, East
Arlington, MA 02174, which also offers a brochure on tours to Nova Scotia,
Pacific Northwest islands and New England.
