| Pat, children of anyone born in Ireland are Irish citizens
automatically. Grandchildren of anyone born in Ireland may
apply for Irish citizenship.
The application can be got from the local consulate. You need
the birth certificates of everyone involved, including marriage
certificates if there are any name changes. For example, if you
want to claim citizenship from your maternal grandfather you'd
need yours, your mother's, and your grandfather's birth certificates,
as well as your parent's marriage certificate.
They raised the rates this year from $75 to $150. And I expect they
will double them again next year. If you have any inclination for
claiming Irish citizenship by this method, I'd do so soon. For in
1992 as Ireland joins the EC, I think the laws regarding naturalization
will become stricter.

Ireland has been a member of the EC since the '70s. In 1992, the
'single market' comes into being; I haven't seen anything to suggest
that citizenship issues will be effected. I suspect that Maggie
might have a word to say on that!!! :-)

| Thanks for the clarification Pat.
The Irish govt. already removed one of the features of foreign-birth
naturalization. That is, the children of people who have obtained
citizenship through their grandparent's are now NOT entitled to Irish
citizenship.
