514.0. "Irish Dancing" by AKOV12::HORGAN () Mon Feb 27 1989 14:11

I need to get a pair of step dancing shoes called ghillies.
I have been told they are only sold in Ireland or England. If
anyone knows of a place that sells them, could you provide a name and
    address that I could contact.

A telephone number would even be better!

    Thanks in advance,
    Julia

I did a little bit of checking around for you. The Irish step dance
ghillies are supposed to be the same as Scottish country dancing
or Scottish Highland dancing shoes, also called ghillies. These
are soft soled shoes. Not to be confused with Ghillie Brougues,
which are hard-soled and pipers wear. You should be able to find
these at any Irish or Scottish import shop. If they dont have them
they would special order them for you from Scotland or Ireland.

Try Highland Heritage, 131 E Main St, Newark, Delaware, 19711, phone
302-368-4031 or 301-398-6861. They are a good mail order source
and I have had very good service from them.

    Good Luck. Marge

Because your NODE indicates Delaware might be far from home for
you, I would suggest that you contact:

    			Atholl Brose
    			37 Blanchard Road
    			Cambridge, Mass. 02138
    			Tel. (617) 864-8945

These are some friends of mine who run a business out of their home
selling Scottish dance and folk music records and tapes, ghillies,
books, kilt socks, tartan stuff, gift items, etc.

They've also, since before Christmas, rented some space in the bazzar
in the Porter Exchange, which is the old Sears building in Porter
Square, Cambridge. They're on the second floor just above the
Cottonwood Cafe, but they're generally only open in the afternoons
during the week. They haven't gotten too much business at that
location and may find it necessary to revert to mail-order business
from home. You can call them first to make sure. They don't stock
many sizes of ghillies at the store, but if you tell them you're
coming they will bring in what you want.

Thanks for the info. I will give Atholl Brose a call.

514.4Set Dancers Rwanda AppealSIOG::CASSERLYEireannach is ea meThu Jul 21 1994 07:1812
A call went out to all set dancers on RTE Radio last night asking all
set dancers to support a RWANDA Fundraising Ceile on SAturday 21st of
    July.
The ceile will take place in O Connell Street,Dublin from 12midday to
18:00hrs approximately. I am not sure who the organisers are but its a
nice way to have fun and at the same time raise funds for what is a
    desperate situation in Rwanda/Zaire.
The pictures published each day in the Irish Times certainly leave a
bad taste on ones mouth to see such pathetic scenes in this day and age.
