Dont mind KSULLIVAN, the name means FOOL and as for a BURNS guy,
never trust a Clare man/women, I played Gaelic football down there
and the team had a player called WING THE WONG NUMBER, a real chinese
    guy.

Call the dog RENE, it means re-born, and if you don't like that
    call him JACKEEN.

    Ren the true blue DUB.

There's a wolfhound in the Mabinogion called "Gelert". I can't
vouch for it's Irish ancestry, but it was a good Celtic warrior.

The story goes that the local lord and lady and their retainers went
hawking, leaving their baby son in the care of Gelert. While they
were away, the camp was attacked by wolves and Gelert fought them
off. During the fight the cradle was overturned with the baby under
    it.

When the lord returned, seeing nothing but the bloodstained dog and the
overturned cradle he killed Gelert with his sword in a fit of rage.
The baby was found, too late, under the cradle and two dying wolves
were found in the surrounding woods.

In remorse, the lord set up a standing stone over Gelert's grave,
which, in Welsh, is the name of that place to this day "Beddgelert".

    Romantic stuff eh?

    Colin.

| 501.8 | Guinness Paddy - a Noble Pup | AUSTIN::OREILLY | Maggie Mae's on 6th for Stout | Sun Feb 12 1989 11:13 | 20 |
| | Romantic, indeed and a tear jerker. Now, if I was the lord in the
story; the story would have ended with "and the lord's wife, more
angry than all get out slayed her lover with one blow. Upon closer
scrutiny, Gelert appeared to have a heart beat and the lord's wife
managed to nurse him back to health. The two lived happily ever after!"

Now, we have apparently come up with the name - "Guinness". I tell
you this dog loves Guinness. I haven't given him a bowl of it as
it might be just too much vitamins/nutrients for the poor beggar
to take all at once! :-) But, when I dip my finger in Guinness
(the beer) and offer it to Guinness (the puppy) he goes after it
like crazy - then he goes for the bottle!!

We're thinking of "Paddy" as his middle name - Guinness Paddy.
This dog is bound for glory and, I suspect, a wee bit of trouble
from time to time. He's already a mischievous rascal.

Thanks very much for your suggestions!!

Paddy is a fine middle name indeed..... And with that name he is able
to fend off the evil spirits and good luck will follow him where
ever he roams..... He is clearly of Republican leanings, this will
guarantee his taste for "Guinness" and the innate ability for finding
mischief in the most unusual places.

| | Self realisation is indeed a fine thing, Paddy.....you and this
poor misfortune of a dog do seem to have a lot in common. Woof Woof!!

Can you just imagine how that poor dog must feel having to introduce
    himself as.......

1st dog (named Cailin). "Hi handsome, (though if he has so much
in common with Paddy, that can't be true),
                              whats your name"?

    G.P. "Guinness Paddy".

    Cailin. "WHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"

    G.P. "I know, I try to keep it a secret, it's
not really my fault, it's my owner...."

Cailin. "He wouldn't happen to be, heehehe, Irish
                                would he"?

    G.P. "Very subtle eh"?

Cailin. "Well come along, whats in a name anyway?
What do you think of George Bush's budget"?

    G.P. "Sucks......"

Anyway, those wolfhounds are reasonably smart.....he'd sense my

| | Hi Marge,

Why does Guinness fit the chow dog??? Just curious.......

BTW, Guinness the IW is coming along fine and growing like a weed
(like you would expect a GIANT dog to grow!).

He won't participate in his next St. Pat's parade till next year
as he won't be finished with his various vaccinations in time.
But I'll give Guinness a sip of Guinness on St. Pat's. How can
you say no to a Guinness?
