487.0. "WELSH NATIONAL ANTHEM" by FSADMN::REESE () Sat Jan 07 1989 01:22

Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i	The land of my fathers, the
    	mi,				land of my choice,
Gwlad beirdd a chantorion, enwogion o	The land in which poets and
    	fri;				minstrels rejoice;
Ei gwrol ryfelwyr, gwladgarwyr tra	The land whose stern warriors
    	mad, were true to the core,
Tros ryddid gollasant eu gwaed. While bleeding for freedom
    					of yore.

CYDGAN:					CHORUS:

Gwlad, Gwlad, pleidiol wyf i'm gwlad,	Wales! Wales! fav'rite land
    					of Wales!
Tra mor yn fur i'r bur hoff bau,	While sea her wall, may naught
    					befall
O bydded i'r heniaith barhau. To mar the old language of Wales.

Hen Gymru fynyddig, paradwys y bardd,	Mountainous old Cambria, the
    					Eden of bards,
Pob dyffryn, pob clogwyn i'm golwg	Each hill and each valley,
    	sydd hardd;			excite my regards;
Trwy deimlad gwladgarol, mor swynol	To the ears of her patriots
    	yw si how charming still seems
Ei nentydd, afonydd, i mi. The music that flows in her
    					streams.

Os treisiodd y gelyn fy ngwlad tan ei	My country, tho' crushed by
    	droed,				a hostile array,
Mae hen iaith y Cymry more fyw ag	The language of Cambria lives
    	erioed,				out to this day;
Ni luddiwyd yr awen gan erchyll law	The muse has eluded the traitors'
    	brad,				foul knives,
Na thelyn berseiniol fy ngwlad. The harp of my country survives.

    HEN WLAD FY NHADAU LAND OF MY FATHERS

    You wouldn't have the Welsh translation of the hymn "Guide Me O
    Thou Great Jehovah", by any chance? I know my mother would love
    to have the Welsh words to this (even though she doesn't speak
    much Welsh). Thanks in advance! You can mail them to me at location
    BMF, or CAM::MILLER

    Nancy -

    Got the words of Land Of My Fathers out of my National Gymanfa
    Ganu hymnal, so I'll give it a shot. I have several of my Da's
    old Welsh hymnals packed away somewhere.....hopefully, it will
    be in one of them.

    Nancy -

    Didn't mean to ignore your request, have been on vacation and got
    a bit behind.....working keeps interfering with my noting :-)

    I'm fairly certain my Welsh Hymnal contains Cwm Rhondda (Guide Me Oh
    Thou Great Jehovah).

    I'll try and send it to you over the week-end.
