473.0. "AIR RYAN info please!" by CYCLPS::DRISCOLL () Wed Dec 07 1988 11:30

              ADVICE PLEASE

Has anyone used AIR RYAN to get from London to Dublin?

I'm looking into an inexpensive way to get from Heathrow Airport
to Dublin. I've been told Air Ryan flys out of Lutton (sp) but I
haven't been able to get information on how to get from Heathrow
to Lutton or availability of AIR RYAN flights.

Any information on AIR RYAN or any other suggestions for inexpensive
means of getting to Dublin would be appreciated.

    Margaret,

I know Ryan Air fly from Luton to Galway and Knock airport, but
I'm not sure of Dublin but I can ring them tomorrow and find out
this (plus costs and times)for you.

Aer Lingus fly direct from Heathrow to Dublin...it might be at bit
more expensive but I'll check that with our travel dept here.

Ther is also an airport bus that runs(every 20-30 mins) between
    Heathrow and Luton.

I presume you'll be flying into Heathrow and wanting a quick and
inexpensive connecting flight to Dublin?. Also can you tell me your
date of arrival because if it's during the christmas period it could
be difficult.A lot of these flights have already been booked by
the large amount of Irish emmigrants working in London.

The boat/train from London is another possibility but only as a
last resort...it's a killer espiecally after a trans adlantic
    flight.

    Margaret,

I am one of those emmigrants who lives in London and returns to
    Dublin for a Christmas bash.

I have enquired about the possibility of obtaining "a seat" from Dublin
to Heathrow for Christmas and unless you book in advance (flight or
boat) your chances of making the trip are slim.

If you do chance a stanby flight you will pay a very high price,
as the Airlines like to "cash in" during the Christmas period. If
you do decide to book in advance the ticket will still be expensive
as all the cheaper tickets have gone by now.

British Airways and Aer Lingus both fly from Heathrow to Dublin.
Ryanair fly from Luton. The boat trip is an unpleasant way to travel
    although it is cheaper.

Phone numbers for bookings. (all London numbers).

Well I can tell you now, do not go by boat. It takes on average
10 to 12 hours from Euston station in London by train to Hollyhead
and then by boat to Dun Laoighre or the North Wall. I made the trip
last christmas from Basingstoke and it took me 14 hours altogether.

I booked my flight in September (Super apex) and it cost me 92 pounds
return, but there were very few cheap flights available around the
christmas time. They put the price up if you book a flight in between
    15 dec and 26 dec.

You may have more luck flying from Luton but dont hold your breath.

Has anyone come across any cheaper flights around the christmas
    time ??

    Cheers

I believe DAN AIR also fly Luton/Dublin. I agree with the other
contributersIt will be estremely difficult to get a flight at this
    stage Cheap or otherwise.
CIE and Slattery Bus Company run a bus from London to Dublin and
I thinks is cost around 45 return.
Virgin Airline also fly to Dublin.

    Welcom home for Christmas.
