Or write: NHIAC PO Box 6331 Nashua, N.H. 03063 Sysnopsis: Bernadette Devlin McAliskey has been a leader of the struggle for social justice in Northern Ireland since the civil rights days of 1968 when she was a student at Queens University. She was elected to the British Parliament in 1969 at the age of 21 and remained a member until 1974. McAliskey has proven to be one of the most articulate and prescient leaders of the Irish people. In January 1981, she and her husband were critically wounded in an assassination attempt. They miraculously survived. Ms. McAliskey will discuss the contemporary history of Ireland from the civil rights movement to internment and the hunger strikes. She will also focus on the need for the MacBride Principles Legislation to help alleviate widespread discriminatory practices in Northern Ireland. SPONSOR: NHIAC and the NHC School of Human Services.
