427.0. ""Wee Beasties in the Rockies"" by 7R7NET::MCKENZIE () Tue Aug 30 1988 00:07

    Is there anyone out there who will be attending the "Longs Peak
    Scottish Highlands Festival" in Estes Park, Colorado. The date
    for the event is the 9-11 of September. For those who have never
    attended it is one #!%& of a bash! If anyone is going to be in
    Colorado during that week-end and is interested in more info, you
    can send mail to 7R7NET::MCKENZIE or call DTN: 522-3989.

    You bet. I am entered in Grade IV 2/4 march and 6/8 march and Grade
    III Pibroch for solo piping. Also going to attend the Tartan Seminar
    and then for the rest of the weekend, I will get to actually enjoy
    the Games. Last year I was in a pipe band and never got any time
    to do anything, but not this year. I'm looking forward to it.

427.2What will the weather be like THIS year?!?!?COOKIE::WITHERSTue Aug 30 1988 12:127
    Count me in...I'm looking forward to music, beer, music, beer, and
    watching big burley folks throwing around telephone poles. Oh,
    my wife and I are also entering dulcimer and whistle competitions...
    See you there, Joel, and MA_BAKER.

427.4Tartan SeminarCSC32::MA_BAKERThu Sep 15 1988 14:3113
    Any of you Scots (or others interested in TARTANS), if you get the
    opportunity to ever attend Dr. Philip Smith's Tartan Seminar, I
    would highly reccommend it. I went to the one he gave at the Longs
    Peak Festival in Estes Park, Colorado. It was about 6 hours in
    length, and covered history of the tartan (and of Scotland), the
    clan system, some Gaelic, and a whole lot of other stuff. I found
    it to be very educational and extremely interesting. Phil is of
    course the author of "A Tartan for Me", which is a book that suggests
    tartans for different names. He is a fellow of the Scottish Tartan
    Society. He is a linguist and teaches languages at some Pennsylvaina
    university. I also wound up with a certificate from said Society
    that says that I am now knoweldgable enough to man Scottish Society
    or clan tents. But I did enjoy the seminar!
