| Talking about Doolin etc. I came across this funny story
in the Sunday Press yesterday. It appears that 'Vassendoolins'
is the new 'nick-name' for those German tourists that visit
Ireland. You know the type Yellow wellies, yellow waterproofs,
ruck-sack and they bring their own sandwiches...
Why Vassendoolins ?
Well if you ask them where they have visited, they reply.
'First I vass in Dublin, then I vass in Cork and then I
V A S S E N D O O L I N !!!

| As a Galwayman who visited Doolin for the first time last July,
does anybody remember the very STEEEEEEP road down into the south
end of Doolin Pier?
Does this qualify as the steepest in Ireland?
I was Directed down this road from a petrol station but the
owner did not think it worth warning me about. There is a tower
to the left as one decends with a good view of the atlantic
ahead.(I was more interested in keeping a foot on the brake!!)
Overall Doolin is worth a visit but.....
1. parking spaces are limited (in Jul & Aug).
2. The pubs will be packed with Germans recording the music
3. As an Irishman, people will react with astonishment
when you tell them it's your first time there.
4. Advance booking of accomodation is ESSENTIAL in July
& Aug.
The locals will look after you well so enjoy it!!!!

The tower you mentioned is the Doonagore Castle.
That road IS the speepest road I ever traveled in Ireland, and
it's even more interesting if you walk it from the "Cliffs"
to Doolin.
Most/all of my recordings from O'Connors' include Irish Music
and free German lessons ... :-)
Sound Ballyvaughan !!!
