419.0. "More travel questions...." by GRANPA::JDEMARIA () Wed Aug 10 1988 11:54

    I asked these questions before, but I was hoping for some more
    information. My wife and I have planned a holiday in Ireland from
    Sept.22 to Oct. 2. I would like to spend the first few days in Galway
    during the Oyster festival and spend the rest of the time travelling the
    northwest coastal areas. Any information concerning the festival,
    pubs, Sligo, pubs, Rosses point, pubs, music and horse racing would be
    appreciated. On previous trips I have seen many beautiful golf
    courses, are there public courses and are clubs usually avaliable
    for rental?

    If anyone would like to meet for a pint or two let me know the time
    and place. When in Ireland it seems like I'm always thirsty.

    Morans is a must when in Galway.

    Also avoid the Snake. He will tempt you into every Shebeen and den
    of iniquity, west of the Shannon. He will be mourning Galways demise
    as well as the expolsion of his compatriots (thats his usual excuse)

              Regardin golf I understand that if you pay Green fees,
    you can play at most courses. I am sure that the local professional
    can rent you some sort of a club

    The Tatch just outside Ballisodare on the Colloony side is a nice
    little pub. There is music there on some nights but i'm not sure
    what nights. Nifty's Bunker in Rosses Point (Two nice snooker tables).
    There's usually music on in one or two pubs in Sligo town on any
    evening. The tourist office (beside the Hawkswell Theater) will
    be able to give you more info. I do believe there is a music festival
    coming up in Riverstown. If in doubt ask the locals.

    have a nice time

419.3Cheap flights into/out of Ireland...SPCTRM::LSMITHFri Jun 29 1990 10:0410

    Well, I looked for an appropriate place to put this, and this is
    as close as it gets, I guess.

    For anyone who is looking for cheap flights to/from Ireland, my travel
    agent found a great charter that goes into Shannon. The cost is
    $215.00 each way. You just can't beat it!! If anyone is interested
    in more details, contact me off-line.
